Oil Service

Featured Replies

Hi, hope you can help. Bought used Superb October 2019 with only 50 miles. Have now driven 2000 miles and oil service warning has come on based on being 1 year old. Main dealer wants £185 for oil and filter ! If I get oil change with a local garage will my warranty be covered with Skoda ??

The garage you use needs to be vat registered and you need to buy the oil and oil filter from skoda, to be able to show that you used genuine parts and manufacturer recommended oil.

You could try another dealer as well. my local main dealer charges £130 for the same job.

Thanks for the advice, will shop around 👍👍

The oil and filter do not have to be bought from Skoda.  The correct fluids and filters or parts have to be used.  Even Skoda CZ and Skoda dealerships do not 'buy from Skoda' as Skoda do not produce oil or manufacture filters.  So approved repairers or VAT registered establishments and the correct consumables.  It is s free market and best read warranty T&C,s if interested.

Absolutely correct. In most cases they hand you out Castrol oil in some form or another, or similar, and the likes of a Mann filter etc. But buying it direct from them for a couple of years while the vehicle is under warranty leaves them with no wiggle room, which was my reason for the above response.

Wouldn't be the first time a vehicle has been turned down for a warranty claim in the workshop due to something silly, like no oil spec or grade listed on the docket. Also seen them refuse an engine repair and blame it on an "aftermarket" filter.

I suppose it differs by manufacturer, but a lot of them will use any excuse to turn warranty claims down to save money.

DPF's spring to mind. A lot of claims turned down as they said it could have been the incorrect oil grade used.

No misleading intended, probably should have just explained myself a bit better. lol.

Actually Quantum / Fuchs for TPS now. Official VW UK supplier. Has been for a couple of years.

Simples for TSI,s on fixed servicing can use vw502. Or vw504/ 507,   fixed or variable. or now vw 508/509 since WLTP introductions.  For fixed or variable servicing.  TDI,s and it has to be the 507 or 509 which is 0w 20 fs IV crap .  Producer of no consequence and not voiding any warranties in the EU or the UK.

Thank you all for your advice. Noted the correct oil to use. Additional couple of questions - as no service book now used can the service be logged with Skoda UK or is a garage receipt stating oil used in ? Also is it possible to change the fixed service to variable due to !my low mileage ? Thanks

It goes on the Skoda / VW system and independents with licenced equipment can do the same. And they can check recalls, service campaigns and TPI,s . Some can do warranty work.  BUT get an invoice and receipt as anyway.   Important at Skoda deslers have them show the body inspection is on the system for paint.corrossion warranty.  SKODA UK love to say not carried out even though they know who are not doing it, and it is not in the Warranty T&C,s anyway.  It is part of a Main Dealer Service though.

Yes the car can be on Fixed servicing. Just get the service is indicator changed to that at a service.  Or each year or sooner put the car in for a service.  Get stuff needing done done and do not pay for stuff not replaced or even looked at.
