1.9 octavia 1.9TDI estate slight water ingress from passenger door and boot

Featured Replies

Hi

I have noticed when we have heavy rain or after washing the car that i have a small puddle on the rear luggage cover and from the rear passenger doors ( one from the bottom and one from the top which wets the seat. Not ideal!! are the seals easy to change or is his a common problem? If it is the rubbers where is the best place to buy them at at a reasonable cost? Any idea what else it could be?

Thanks

Hi

Is it possible that the water is coming from the high level brake light? Is this a common problem?

Thanks

It is a common-ish problem stu.

Especially the rear door one. .............. Look at blackspaven's 'rear door water ingress leak' for a cure to the footwell leak.

The top of the door seals trap water which drips onto the seat when door is opened and same can happen with the tailgate.

Try thoroughly cleaning the seals, both on the door frame and the opening, getting behind the flat seals too, and the same on the tailgate.

This has a good possibility of sorting your problem or at least making it much less of a problem.

Just last year I noticed water on the boot cover, fortunately nothing more than on the cover so found it in time, cleaned the whole seal and inside the frame and nothing since.

Great thanks for the advice.not too much water comes in but don't want it to get worse.the water stays on the luggage cover too which I guess dries out in time but leaves water marks

Thanks again

I put a towel on top of the luggage cover until I was sure I had it sorted...

LHS edge / corner by any chance???

Hi

From looking from the rear it's right hand corner / edge near the rear window.also a very small amount from passenger front door right at the very bottom where step is and rear passenger drivers side has a wet seat when you open the door if it's been raining or if I've washed the car.

Thanks

Yes stu, a thorough clean of all of the seals should help the water trickle away and dry out rather than get trapped by muck and drip into the car when the door is opened..
