Entering in to the world of DSG auto gear boxes on new car: what is their general reliability like  and ease of use ?

Welcome.

Very reliable and the DSG oil changes are at 40,000 miles or sooner.

The Haldex at 3 years or sooner.

The “wet” type DSG that you’re Kodiaq will have are proving to be reliable, it is the dry clutch type that are troublesome.

As to ease of use, start car select drive and on you go it’s really easy.

The Kodiaq  is the first DSG I’ve driven, loved it on the test drive and ordered without any qualms. After the first week learning curve of not having to push clutch and stir gearbox, and learning to feather the brake pedal to allow the car to creep with with the autohold on it fair to say I don’t think I’d ever go back to a manual now, it’s really a brilliant system.

Appreciate your positive feedback. Thankyou.

On my third DSG, never found a problem, instant response to taking up at roundabout's , very good at slow manoeuvring , totally happy with the DSG

They’re brilliant.

Next question?

Ease of use? F for forward, B for backward, that’s about it. ( other letters are available )

Even easier.

one move back for going back,

another move back to go no place (or rolling down a hill if no parking brake used),

another move back to go forward,

and yet another move back to go forward and have the rpm going higher before changing gear.

Once you have done that you can go the other direction with the shifter.
