Top strut / bearing

Featured Replies

I realise there are many threads on this and the wish bone alloy rubbers.

However, I have a 2010 vrs. Had this rattle and knocking front left. Only really hear it at up to 30mph.

Worst at 5 to 15mph. Sounds like something is really lose and about to fall off.

Just had wheels off to replace discs and pads. Nothing obvious from ball joints etc.

Is there a way to know if it is the bearings in the strut.

Steering feels great driving. All a bit odd.

Any help appreciated.

Have you checked the drop link to the anti-roll bar.

Can be noisy when worn on one of the joints.

Thanks for reply. That was replaced last year as failed MOT on that. Feels ok unless replacement was cheap rubbish 🤷🏻‍♂️

If you have a helper, secure the car with the wheel in the air and lever it up under the tyre using what you have to hand e.g. pinch bar, garden spade whilst trying to locate the problem.

I just had a look at it to check all done up tightly and it did make funny noise when I tried force on it.

It is a Delphi ARB link, are they ok? Heard mixed reviews.

There's good and bad with any brand just less with a reputable brand/non counterfeit.

I've had 'good' brand links last 3 months and £10 unbranded Chinesium last a couple of years.

My observations seem to suggest the Octavia geometry is particularly hard on links for some reason.

Thanks for your help.

What make have you found works? Would you buy vw original?

The OE seems Febi or Lemforder.

My VAG link lasted 8 years. This current one seems 18 months 🙈

The only VW original parts I've bought were overpriced suspension springs, both broke just outside the 2 year warranty.

I don't recall what brand I fitted last time, been through a few, I think they were Febi cheap from the bay.

Thanks, I took the old one off and put a new VAG on. All perfect now :).

Won’t let the garage put Delphi on again.
