My 2016 Fabia is now just 4 years old with 20k on the clock.  I noticed that the coolant was going down so I've taken it to my local garage (out of warranty) who have told me that there is a leak in the lower radiator so it will have to be replaced.  Bit annoying that this has happened to a pretty young-ish car cos it looks like it's going to cost around £400 to replace.  Is this a common thing to occur or have I just been unlucky?

I think you have been unlucky. My 2015 Fabia cooling system has been OK the water level has stayed at just above the minimum level since I bought the car.

At one time you could get radiators repaired but that was a long time ago Joe

Just spoke to the garage again and looks like cause was stone damage, even more annoying as hardly used the car this year.

Having had one air-con radiator holed and replaced at great cost I bought black aluminium grill mesh and edging strip.

I made top and bottom grill guards which I zip tied discreetly in place on both my Yeti.
