Skoda Octavia RS 2.0 TDI Remap Options and Opinions?

Featured Replies

Thinking of getting my 2014 RS Remapped stage 1 by a local fella here in Ireland.

Does anyone have any experience and pros/cons of a remap?

And would I need to upgrade Stock Parts? (Some lads tell me Clutch/flywheel, others tell me nothing because its only Stage 1) advice be much appreciated.

Hello! How many miles on the car currently?

Ok, have you had cambelt and waterpump replaced? As these would be what I'd be checking before putting the engine under additional load.

The clutch is ok on the CR manual engine, I had a revo map on an mk7 GTD which required no additional hardware and no issues. My current VR doesn't experience (touch some wood) any issues either with a tuning box fitted although I am still thinking on making a move to a Darkside Development remap or Revo.

This fella you have doing the remap, has he said what he expects to achieve from the software change? Do you know how the power will be delivered i.e. is it being brought in earlier in one big lump of boost which is going to likely shorten clutch life or is it a mid range increase in power and torque which is more suited for the diesel? Those are the questions I'd be asking him, if in doubt try stick with reputable tuning companies such as Revo or Darkside who have plenty development experience with these cars and have the software designed to be in the boundaries of hardware safety and longevity of components.

Pro - more power and torque, more responsive drive, more Mpg (depending on how it's driven)
Con - can wear out parts quicker DMF, turbo, clutch etc. (depending on how it's driven)

For a stage 1 you wont need to change any parts

my two cents would be find a tuner with a good reputation, make sure they're remapping the car and not juts banging a generic map on and sending you on your way.

you want them to be creating a custom map by changing the injection timing, bost etc and creating a map on rolling road with print outs, ideally with road tests and pre/post scans & safety checks completed

best way is give them a ring and see what they offer and how knowledgeable  they are - as an example one company I spoke to said my car would produce 250+ bhp and ''would only take them 25 minutes as they're 'Pro's'' - safe to say, I didn't go with them.

Got the Stage 1 done, and delighted. Car is running very nicely throughout all gears, and she has that bit more poke to get you moving (overtaking etc.).

222hp

450nm

He is emailing Dyno so if anyone wants to see I'll send onto this when I receive. Point to note, been driving the car normally and genuinely seeing small improvement in MPG, now haven't done the maths on it myself, just according to car so hopefully its right. 👍
