Novsight LED Conversion bulbs - Any Good

Featured Replies

Hey Guys,

My Mk3 Octavia has its MOT on Saturday, and unfortunately I am self isolating, so my wife will need to take it to the garage. One of the things I need to do is to replace a normal dipped bulb at the front. I don't know if it is a known issue, but I have to change one or the other every 5-6 months, where as other cars once every 2 years. I do have them running as daylights too, so that might be the issue too. Anyway I was on amazon to buy some bulbs, when I happened to come across these....

A set of LED bulbs with a conversion kit. Are these any good? I know price wise it looks insane, but thought I would ask you guys first. Also would the be MOT safe too??

Thanks

I'm guessing you have Halogen headlamps not HID (Xenon)?

If that's true then fitting LED or aftermarket HID kits will be an MOT fail (if the tester follows the Guidelines), because you are only allowed to fit bulbs of a type that the headlamp is Type Approved for and on the Octavia that's Halogen only.

You can get some better Halogen bulbs that are Road Legal - look for Osram NightBreaker and similar.

But uprated bulbs tend to have shorter lives than the normal ones as they burn out faster, and the OP already has problems with needing to change bulbs frequently. Surely this isn't common in the Octavia? I went for years without changing headlight bulbs back in the day my cars were on halogen bulbs.

Are you touching the lamp glass when you’re fitting new lamps. Oil residue etc from fingers causes  premature failures.
