2016 Oct VRS TDI DSG Autolights and interior light

Featured Replies

Hello All,

So I collected my used oct vrs last wednesday and very quickly I worked out the interior light didnt come on when the doors opened (even when in the correct setting), also the auto wipers were not working either.  Again, set correctly on the tick boxes on the info system and and the stalk in the correct position too.

So the car is covered by a 12 months AA warranty, so gave them a call and they booked the car into their VAG specialist (Auto Elite in Watford), so car dropped off, 36hrs later they inform me that someone has disabled both features on the car (by VAGCOM or something).

The AA now know too the findings but waiting to find out who is going to pay for it to be put right.  I have no idea why someone would do this, seems a little strange, when both systems can be switched off just by the user.

Any thoughts would be welcome.

Cheers

Hmm - - I could understand that the wipers may not work on auto assuming that you can change that with VAGCOM / VCDS etc - the interior light however I would be at a loss. Sure thats not a damaged wire / blown bulb / broken switch?

Assuming its off a forecourt (not private) you want the garage to pay ultimately.  On the other hand there are enough people on here who have VAGCOM / VCDS etc who, assuming that the garage's finding are correct, would rectify for beer tokens or some pocket money.  I'd do it for nowt but I'm no where near.

The question I would ask myself is if someones disabled auto wipers, what else have they done.

As above, where did you buy the car from?

If things have been messed with, then ideally, you want it to go to a Skoda dealer who can reset all the modules to the original factory settings. At least then you know it's in a sensible configuration to start with.

- If you bought it from a Skoda dealer, I'd expect them to do it.

- A non-Skoda dealer should pay for a Skoda specialist with Fazit/Geko access to sort it.

- If it's a private seller, it might be worth asking if there aware of any changes made in the hope they have a list of what was done.

Saying that, disabling the interior lights is a very odd tweak... Not sure why anyone would do that so I'm a little dubious of the diagnosis.

Do any of the interior lights works at all by switching to manual

Hello,

thank you for your replies.  So it came from a non Skoda dealer.  They will be getting a bill.

Yes I think a complete reset would be ideal.

the interior lights work on all the other settings.

Forgetting the wipers for a moment, I doubt someone coded the interior lights on just the 'door open setting'.  I'd be thinking more along the lines of a switch issue.

Which garage did it go to for diags?
