Advice before buying

Featured Replies

Hello everyone

First thing first, i live in France.  Just saying cause taxes and some laws specific to britain could mess the topic

So, i plan to buy a used octavia mk3

Preferably a model before the last facelift as i prefer the optic (especially with Led daylight)

I struggle to choose between a tdi and à tsi

I test drived the tdi 105 and the tdi 150 (which was of course way  smoother and nice to drive)

I was unable to test a petrol version

The 1.6 tdi 105 do the job. Is the 116 version à noticeable boost?

Initially i was going to take  a 1.4 tsi140  but i fear mileage. I am not a pilote but i do drive energically.

If i assume that the petrol would do 1L more than TDI 150 i tested, i would do something like near 8L that seems to be just way to much compared to what i read on professionnal test.

Are the 150 that  fuel  heavy or was it my test  (urban condition) not to be trusted ?

Is bioethanol à good option if i go the tsi way?

On another note i did some research on the navigation system and it seems to be impossible to turn off the screen without shutting everything off. Is it possible to listen music or radio with the touchscreen off?

Sorry for the long post and the poor english

7l/100km does sound very high for even Parisien urban driving, its a shame you did not check the long term trip memory (number 2) for the average consumption over the recorded term which could have been 3K kms +.

The situation regarding the quitus fiscale on a UK imported vehicle is still a debating point, do you know if the préfectures have passed the responsability over to les douanes yet? When I registered an Octavia in 2018 I was told that it would be happening from the next month, it was yet another of the Brexit deadlines that got put back.

If you do get a response from les douanes regarding import tax & TVA could you please let us know, I would say that in the absence of a reciprocal agreement (which there wont be much desire for) it will be 10% import duty + 20% TVA on the cote Argus, by rights it should have a lower value for being RHD.
