On off braking........

2005 Skoda vrs

Has a sporadic and hit and miss braking issue....... Some applications it puts your head through the windscreen other pedal will travel to the bottom, and you have to release to build pressure back up! I’ve tested the brake fluid (albeit with a cheap tester pen of flea bay) and it informed me it needed changing..... I’ve had a lot on loosing a parent and it’s on my “to do” list, but after speaking to a garage this morning he said “it’s more than likely” the master cylinder and advised replacing it as the seals weaken with time hence the sometimes f1 brakes and other times Fred flintstone braking?  I’ve no fluid loss, nor no lights on dash vrs is a well looked after full service history example and not abused what’s peoples thoughts ? The slow long pedal travel seems to be when applying brakes more gradually if that info helps

I would say the garage is spot on.

Get the Master Cylinder or even just the MC seals changed.

Then have all the fluid changed to the slave cylinders.

I had a similar thing with my Superb about a year ago.

MC seals weren't available, I had to buy a complete new MC, about £130 from ECP.

You may be able to get just the seals for yours.

Probably best to go down new unit, for cost and messing around, out of interest I presume it sorted your issues ?

Yes, brakes have been perfect since I changed the MC & flushed all the slave cylinders through.
