Strange osf wheel wobble and brakes jamming on

Featured Replies

Hi all

I hit a couple of potholes a few days ago. Yesterday noticed as i approached a traffic light car crawled itself and i got a wobble. Thought damn i have a puncture. Checked it over and tyres were fine. Checked pressure this morning and all were bang on. Now all of a sudden was totally fine on the way to tescos and then got the wobble again and wobble remained at any speed. Pulled over checked wheel nuts they were fine but noticed burning smeel and heat from osf.

Is this a simple seized caliper or does it sound like a wobbly bearing perhaps. Can't understand the wobble bit

Sounds like a seized brake caliper which can induce a brake pulsing when hot.

This is where the brake is seized on tighter at some point every revolution.

This can create a wobble where the suspension is pulled down further at the tight point.

This might not be due to any pothole impacts.

Thanks, AG Falco

I think you might be right. Went out and took the wheel off and can't see anything out of place. It is intermittent and not constant though. Went for a drive after putting wheel back on and it was fine but just pulled onto driveway definitely felt binding again.

Will order a caliper in the morning

Tends to be fine when cold but gets worse after a drive when all the brake bits get warm / hot and expand.

It might not be the calpier. I would check the brakes first including that the pads move freely in the carrier first.

Thanks, AG Falco

Ok will do thank you. Really appreciate the help

You could always try cleaning the caliper pad guides and especially guide pins. Doing back up and see how it goes?

I did just that. Greased the slider pins and pad lobes after wire brushing everything down. Caliper went back okayish was a bit stiff then pedal pumped it out 3 pumps and this time was really hard to wind back. It did seem to cure after the test drive. My head still cant get round the wobble. Lets see how it goes tomorrow

If you have particularly badly lipped disks and meaty pads they could be sticking badly on the disk lip. I had an issue with mine,  once disks and pads changed issue went away. I never had vibration, just a smokey front wheel it stuck on quite bad even after a clean and grease.

The discs and pads were actually really good although a bit pinkish after the heat buildup.

After retracting the caliper im convinced it is the cause. Gonna ordee new caliper in the morning and see how it goes. Wont change disca and pads just yet as they look good.

your greasing might have solved the problem of a sticky caliper. If it comes back, check the piston rubber boot for damage. It might not be obvious, but any water in there could cause corrosion and a very sticky brake.

Yes it was just a temporary measure. I have ordered a new one. That was just to get by
