Featured Replies

afternoon everyone hope your all safe and well

im new to this site so please forgive me if this as already been covered

need some advise on lights bearing in mind I'm no electrician, i have a Skoda Octavia mk2 1.9 tdi 2008 plate

compared to newer cars its like diving in the dark with candles for lights , i bought some h7 Led,s which worked only to throw up error so bulb fault light stopped on

can anyone point me in the right direction to a bulb or kit which would solve this

many thanks

This is the best kit to go for. It's the one I used for 60k miles with no issues.

The only issue being is that you need to have the car coded after fitted.

This is the best solution as rather than using a canbus kit to try and fool the car (which has also been know to damage the electronics in the car), your fitting a normal kit but then coding the car to tell it has xenons fitted which adjusts the bulb warning and stops it from showing up.

If your car is 13 years old, the projector reflectors are probably shot. Check the condition of the reflectors and lens, replace as necessary :)

Please don't use drop in xenon conversions, they are not road legal in the UK and cause glare to other drivers. They should also fail the MOT.

this was how dirty my lenses were before I cleaned them.......

Why should they get so dirt gathered as lenses part is so well closed area?

Is this normal?

Yes it'll need coding.

You also need to add a AFS range control module and level sensors :) You should also fit headlight washers if you don't already have them.

How did you clean them?

With a cloth wrapped around an old toothbrush (iirc) with the head of the toothbrush bent to 90 degree. (use a lighter flame to soften the neck)

But really anything you can get through the bulb hole with a nice clean bit of rag on the end of it.

I'm not an expert on how things get dirty, but yes it is pretty usual that things get dirty over time............ Look at the insides of some old double glazing, for instance.

The headlights aren't 100% sealed with breather holes etc. Dirt gets in over time and gets baked onto the lense.

Just to add my experience to the mix.

I've often thought my halogen projectors looked cloudy and perhaps cleaning in a similar manner to that previously mentioned would improve the light output.

Bearing in mind it's ~1C and blowing snow I found that the inner lens surface was clean just misted with condensation, something that would clear quickly in use so an unnecessary procedure.
