Flames?

Featured Replies

Hello all!

Been running a full de-cat system for a few months now, but seem to be only getting flames pop out every now and then, not very frequently at all though. I know I know, I'm childish, but I like flames :D Any idea's why? And is this normal, or should I be popping flames all the time?

I guess you'd only get flames if your car was running a little rich and hence unburnt petrol passing through.

Flames occur when cars run rich top end.

Often cars run rich top end to aid cooling due to the high temps produced. It's done as a safety measure. Hence a lot of cars will puff black smoke out at high revs (I know mine does).

With an FMIC I'd imagine due to the intake charge being colder the ecu will lean out the mixture a bit, so you may be less likely to get flames.

On the bright side though, you're not wasting as much fuel :)
