Fabia started to smoke quite badly. Advised egr fault.  Had a remap and egr delete capped egr valve at intake side of cylinder had as advised. Smoked after 1 mile of slight load looked like over fuelling  so capped egr valve at exhaust/ both sides of cylinder head. Has had 2 regens in 1500 miles ( dpf light on dash) after regen no smoke for 2 weeks then started smoking last regen failed (duration)now in limp mode code is P2498. Was told today could be injector 4 over fuelling as a common fault when remapped any ideas please thanks Cliff

So did you have a remap and EGR delete to "fix" the EGR fault ?

 

A faulty EGR sytem will cause smoke on most diesels, one bad one I have seen plenty of is when they fail on a duratec transit, the smoke then is pretty significant !!....

 

the fault code you have is related to the EGR, now unless that is "removed" from the vehicle programming, its always going to be there as the EGR is not working and the ECU will see it.

 

A remap on a diesel basically tells it to throw more fuel in, so thats what it does, it fuels or "overfuels quicker"........ I doubt you will ever find / see a remapped diesel that does not smoke to some extent when you boot it, the problem is some remaps are a lot better than others....it's amazing how many "mappers" have appeared over the years on all makes of cars and they suddenly become tuning experts with a laptop and some software.

So a little update plugged in to VCDS Saturday wouldn’t do a forced regen (he thought is was because he reset lights first)then took for a run no smoke. Went out Sunday am light throttle slight incline only travelled less than a mile smoked, clearedthen carried on a long run keeping at 50-60 2000-2500 rpm every time we stopped revs sitting around 1000rpm no smoke then on return journey dpf light came on so carried on as if going to regen light went out near home revs back to 800 at idle no smoke. Have used car every morning up to now only doing a mile each way no smoke. I think the car has reset parameters for dpf hence light came on so quickly but will wait and see. Any thoughts?
