DSG remembers Eco mode, but not Sport mode

Featured Replies

I don't use Sport mode much, but recently started to and I've noticed the following:

If I set the car in Eco mode, when I drive it the next day, its still in Eco mode. However, if I set the car in Sport mode, the next day its in D or Normal mode.

Why does it remember Eco mode but not Sport mode?

Any one else got the same?

Probably due to previous emission scandal by VW Group hence they had to come clean and make sure the cars they produced going forward after the scandal became public knowledge would only start with a cold engine in Normal or Eco rather than the dirtier more polluting Sport. Sport mode may also damage a cold engine until the oil has reached the proper operating temperature. I put my 2020 Superb diesel in Eco soon after I start it to reduce emissions and with much coasting achieved 60mpg just 2 miles after I left work which is what Skoda designed my 2.0 TDi Evo engine to do.

I think it's so that you won't rev the engine to high until it warms up.

I bet they would not be able to design an engine specially for me for my journey back from work.

I live on site!

I have also been coasting for the last year.

Ok, normal then. Since Sport, Normal and Eco don't make that much difference, I can't see it being in order to protect the engine, but I can see it being emissions related.

thanks

When in sport mode it won't change gear until it's at or near the red line. Not good when the engine is cold.

That's probably true of the VRS but the more mild models are more reasonable with shifting up in Sport

Fair point.

Does sport mode change up at higher revs than normal and evo?

The DSG in a non-VRS? Yes absolutely.

I'm comparing my current 190-petrol/DSG against the previous VRS with 184-TDI/DSG. The Diesel VRS changed up way too late with the DSG in sport mode, especially when you took your foot off the pedal. My new petrol SE-L is much nicer and sport mode is quite usable.

If I run Sport mode it won't sit in 6th at a cruise... it keeps dropping back to 5th (VRS DSG).  This is after manually running through the gears till 6th gear.

In fact mine wants to more than red line in each gear so I always change up manually before the red line. I've done this so often I'm no longer sure the car will change gear in sport unless I tell it to.  I must be getting old but I can't abide having to take the car to and beyond red line to use Sport... so I very rarely use it now.
