Windshield wiper getting stuck behind the other

Featured Replies

Here's a video of what's happening, don't have to watch the whole vid, just to get the idea.

When in service position, left wiper moves left/right much more than the right as well, not sure how that mechanism works but maybe there's a loose screw?

are the blades old, or have they been changed and now its an problem?

someone may have put them on the wrong way round or they might be the wrong size. i had a work van pitch a wiper blade in a to a field next to a motorway on me one night after someone put the new blades on backwards at service the day before..

Wrong size, wrong way round, one or both incorrectly aligned on the spindle.

For the latter switch on the wipers and switch off the ignition just before they are going to clash, one will need moving on its spindle to give the required clearance, seeing where they are in the park & full sweep position will help you decide which one is needs correcting.

Bought the car around a month ago, little more. Have not used the vipers much, but as much as I used, did not notice that problem. Visually, vipers look like new tbh. Gonna check the blades, maybe they really are wrong way round, size seems okay though.

Oh, might be, thanks for the suggestion! Gonna try the spindle thing tomorrow.

If this becomes a recurrent issue, as it did for me after a windscreen change, you may need to tighten the hex bolt holding the wiper arm onto the motor. The bolt can be found by putting the wipers into the service positon (as above) then lifting the bonnet. The bolt is at the base of the wiper arm (where it meets the motor) and is covered by a plastic cap that should be carefully prised off with a flat head screwdriver. Adjust the wiper arm into the desired position as above and then (very carefully) tighten the nut. Do not force or overtighten the nut as the bolts are known to shear, leaving you with a non-functioning wiper blade and forking out for a new wiper motor.
