1.8T camshaft sensor??

Featured Replies

Car is refusing to start (Mk1 vRS 1.8T), VCDS says..

1 Fault Found:
16727 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40)
            P0343 - 35-00 - Signal too High
Readiness: 0110 1101

We come from a GM background where any fault code could be an indication of any fault anywhere, pretty much..

The symptoms fit with a duff sensor, does the error??

If anyone has a part number (while we go searching too) I'd appreciate the help

**edit** we found 058905161B if anyone could confirm/deny (and I need one yesterday, preferably genuine, or recommended brand)

Possible Causes

  • Wiring from/to Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) faulty
  • Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) faulty
  • Timing misaligned

I would have this looked at, as I remember the advert said it had a recent timing belt done?

Part number is correct, but always worth checking it with TPS as they can get you a guide price.

It did have a recent cambelt.. but we've done a thousand or so miles in it since buying it, I would have thought related issues would have showed themselves sooner?

I've got a Bosch one (would have preferred genuine but couldn't find one quick enough) on click and collect from ECP, should be ready Tuesday morning - watched a video, should be a quick job (give swmbo a chance to wield her spanners again).

Picked the sensor up this morning, swmbo had it fitted in 10 mins..

EML out, car starts and runs lovely again.

It's back!!

16727 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40)
            P0343 - 35-10 - Signal too High - Intermittent

Tried to get some numbers from VCDS but couldn't find the relevant group.

Car starts and runs fine, not even a hint of a misfire, have visually checked all wiring and connections and they look good too..

**edit**

There's 2 codes for O2 sensors (I twisted the exhaust and now it's blowing, just cba to get under there right now - swmbo wants a new cat back anyway), could this be related since, I believe (from googling numerous VAG sites), that the cam sensor and emissions are linked?
