Hi guys kept getting traction control light coming on but it did not today infect I had no warning lights on but thought I would do a scan anyways and come up with some faults, had a lot of faults come up to do with the comfort module l got some contact cleaners and cleaned all the fuses relays and all the warning lights went out and it then started up fine again.

anyways still seem to have faults even though no warning lights on the dash.

You can forget about the defective glow plug warning, save yourself a few seconds and just turn the key as you would a petrol engined car.  The preheat isn't doing anything and the car starts just fine.

 

If you wish to test each plug, remove the plug caps and test continuity between each plug and ground, you should see <2 Ohms for a good plug.

 

You can also check for power to the plugs by measuring voltage between the plug caps and ground.  You should see battery voltage when the preheat lamp is lit and probably for a short while after it extinguishes.

 

Since all 4 are showing a fault and they didn't before I suspect you have a broken connection somewhere in the preheat circuit (as a result of recent electrical disturbances) rather than dud plugs.

 

Assuming all the relays are good I can only suggest a painstaking continuity check between each end of the affected system's wiring especially as some show as intermittent possibly indicating connectivity issues rather than faulty components.

My manual doesn't cover your model but indicates 2 relays in the engine fusebox for the 1.9 & 2.0 PD/CR.

 

It shows an on-board power supply unit/Vehicle Voltage Control Unit (CCM?).

 

I believe that is what you previously disturbed and should probably look at again, clear all DTCs and rescan.

You didn't disturb that recently so don't go looking for problems, as I said non functioning glow plugs don't affect starting, at least not on my car down to at least -8C.

true but in a bit the traction control light will show up as well it was coming on before it cut out then all of a sudden after not doing anything and leaving it the car broke down with the same fault  numbers 0010 i,m just worried about it breaking down again

You need to consult your VCDS documentation to find out the meaning of Malfunction 0010.

 

I suspect it has something to do with the frequency/severity of the fault e.g. 0010 may mean intermittent and 0001 may mean permanent etc, I'm just speculating.

The traction control light is almost certainly due to the fault in the ABS module:

Hi guys thanks for the Info sorry for the late replay I have some disabilities and been pretty much bed ridden for a while but up and kicking again.

 

when I cleaned all the fuses and relays as in my last thread I never cleared all the faults so maybe start there?

 

Langers2k do you know where the  AWD module or the ABS module is and fuse number? I will go clean all of it as it does seem to help, I think my car has lots of bad connections cuz as I clean them things do seem to work better

ABS module is probably below the battery tray somewhere. I believe the AWD module will be part of the haldex around the rear diff.

 

TBH, I'd be looking at the AWD module (it's more exposed) rather than the ABS module. Fuse number should be in the owners manual but I haven't got a WD for your car to confirm I'm afraid

Has your haldex ever been serviced? It should have fresh fluid every 40k miles if I remember correctly.

 

If it hasn't, it could just be full of gunk which is stopping the valve working properly...

I will have to check the service history, it had a full service history when I bought it and I dont do a lot of miles and had it nearly 2 years

There is a very good chance the PCB has got corrosion on it as the faults match this thread:

 

been looking it all up and found these photos and the vid on how to change the haldex oil and filter, nothing in the service book to say if it has been done or not, I could maybe let a few drops out and see how clean or dark it is?

Apologies not been in touch guys I had more ill-health and been in and out of hospital, due to go back into hospital Thursday 20th may, Deep Joy.

 

my car problems all of a sudden stopped and so I got a new MOT and carried on driving but I think I knew it would not be for to long,

 

glow plugs light and Traction control light came back on again, but think some other faults are there as well, think 1 is the Rain and Light Recognition Sensor of which I had no idea it had one.

 

done a scan and these came up so as like I did last time I deleted them all and put the battery back on charge, a lot of it is due to I dont drive much and the car could be parked up for a while are I only drive it for a mile or so, what with covid and everything I have had nowhere to go apart from the hospital appointments. got two more this week I hope the car makes it.

 

could you take a look please see what you think? says all the glow plugs are faulty just seems strange they would all go at once maybe I should just change them there not that expensive are they?

You can physically disconnect them and it'll not make any difference to things so forget about them.

 

With your luck you'll probably get a seized plug and shear it off so why play with fire.

 

I suspect you have an electrical fault upstream of the plugs, have you tested for voltage at the plug connection?

No I haven't not sure where the plug connection is or are you talking 1 at a time?

 

you right had no luck what so ever with this car, its a shame as I really enjoy the drive and have spent loads getting it back up together it just seems to be the electrics but I tried to take it to a car sparky he gave me a £380 bill and its all still happening, I just dont know anyone good with the wiring side of things, I have the tools but this is really my 1st time doing anything like this never knew a car had so many modules and sensors.

The car starts and runs great its just all these false warning lights making the car cut out, many a RAC guy have plugged into it and got it wrong, just hope it gets me to these 2 hospital appointments as there important, think I might take my laptop with me so I can plug in if something goes wrong 

The glow plugs are a red herring. 

Again you've got an abs fault guiding you to a a fault in another module, this time guiding you back to the engine control module.

As we can pretty much rule out glow plugs. That leaves your other code in engine, the G28 Which is the crankshaft position sensor. This playing up will cause cutting out and issues as its the main sensor for the engine module to know what position the engine is at at all times.

I agree Daz glow plugs are ok

abs is the 1 that keeps coming up

the abs seems to light up when something else is wrong like this time the light sensor and wiper sensor and the horn, well its only got 1 horn not 2 the wipers do go funny now and then and the lights dont always switch on when you put the switch on auto, they work fine apart from the auto light

do you think the crankshaft position sensor may be gone?.

 

Thing is I done the same thing this time, I put the battery on charge over night and deleted all the faults and drove to my 1st hospital appointment 30 miles away and no problems what so ever drove like a dream with no fault lights on.

 

am really at a loss what to do next as I got a feeling a lot of these faults are red herrings, its just past its MOT 3 days ago with no faults or advisers
