Key won't turn anymore...

Featured Replies

Went shopping earlier today and upon reaching the store, i could not turn off the engine (key was stuck)... After w bit of wiggling I eventually managed to turn it off.

Hop back in and drove home, the key needed a bit of wiggling to get it to the ignition on position... However started and drove home...

Got home and thought I'd try it out a few more times and now i can't turn they key at all. Won't even go to acc position... Also, the steering lock isn't engaged and now the wheels can turn even if the key is not in...

- tried both keys, same behavior

- tried spraying in electrical spray, no help

So I'm guessing either the key lock is faulty or the steering lock cylinder? Any experience with this?

Spray a light lubricating fluid not an electrical cleaning type.

Tried that too. No luck

It sounds similar to something that happened to mine about 5 years ago - I couldn't get the key into the barrel. There was a white plastic piece blocking the way. The recovery man sprayed brake cleaner to get it to work, then a light spray oil. It has never happened since.

Haven't thought about brake cleaner 🤔 i could give that a try.

The key does go in all the way. It just won't turn... Only slightly till the radio turns on but not the dash or anything else.

It sits with Skoda right now and they intend to change the steering lock. Will get a quote soon but the intention is to order it from the factory and have it custom made to my key via the VIN number.
