Earlier in the year I renewed my van insurance 

6 weeks later I sold the van and informed the insurance the same day

They told me they would refund me pro-rata minus a fee of £75

Payment would supposedly take up to 28 days but nothing has been refunded 

I am calling them this week but what can I threaten them with at this point to get my refund

If they don't issue the refund promptly you can make a complaint to them which has to be done before taking it any further - such as to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

How did you pay. If credit card then you can claim it back from them.
