Slightly random, this area on the dashboard:

Is it purely cosmetic or is it an outlet or something (I don't yet own an Octavia so I can't check).

It's a touch to open flip up lid storage compartment.

Thanks.  The reason I ask is that I have a deposit down on an Octavia that has some slight damage around that grille/vent.  In fixing it they have completely covered the area with another material and I'm slightly concerned that the grille/vent shouldn't be covered over

It is on a MK2 which is a fare comment given where the question has been posted.

 

However, that picture is of a MK3...

 

In which case, if the car has Canton then it's the centre speaker under a grill. If the car doesn't have Canton, I think it's just a grill and probably OK to cover...

Ah sorry, my mistake.  It is a MK3.
