Hi I have owned a  2017   fabia 110 se  tsi auto with 18 k on the clock  since New .my main agent phoned me to say I need disks and pads all round a gear box oil change and a camshaft belt change as well as a 4 year service  about £2 000 this seems a bit high .  This price might be a bit high and unnecessary work .what does other members think  pete

Welcome to the forum.

Go to someplace else.  Do not let them do the work.

They are taking the Michael.  Likely trying to fleece you.

Best you talk to someone at the Dealership that knows what they are talking about.

Your 4 year old car has a DQ200 7 Speed DSG that has no Service Schedule or Guidelines and no Oil change at 4 years / 40,000 miles or ever.

They are going to have to show the discs and pads are really needing replaced and that they are not just upselling parts.

?

Was the Brake Fluid changed last Year?

Was the Pollen Filter changed at 2 or 3 years, that might need replacing.

The Air Filter might need replacing.

The spark plugs might need replacing.

It has been serviced at the same dealer since New . The service department play pass the parsell.. My brother has service and repaired  his own car but  he live some distance away and is over 70 he has a local independence garrage that he is happy with .he has suggested after lock down that I borrow one of his unused car and he will sort it

@Canoe

Is the car in for a MOT, or when was the MOT done?

I missed the 18,000 miles only.

Are they saying the brakes are 80% worn, where they might be 20% worn if that but a bit rusty.

The Spark plugs at 18,000 miles are very likely as new with the same gap as new.

?

Have they not tried selling you the service of the Air Conditioning & a fuel treatment?

When a mod moves your thread to the Fabia Section it will be beside the various threads about Water Pumps and Cam Belts.

This is a regular thing discussed as Skoda Main Dealers & Skoda UK do not know which answer to use on any particular hour of any day.

This is the SKODA UK FIXED PRICE SERVICE & MAINTENANCE LIST on cars 3-10 years old on Fixed Service Regimes.

@ participating dealers.

Some can do cheaper and some can charge more.

They are likely upselling.  When you get your car back have a trusted mechanic look at them.

Or speak now with the Master Tech at the place the car is and see what they are saying when they go look again at the car.

If they are trying to take advantage when the car is checked properly then be sure to talk with the Dealer Principal.

?

How much are you paying for what the car is actually in for?

?

What is it in for, a 4 year service?

I WOULD WANT TO KNOW WHY THEY ARE TRYING TO HAVE A CUSTOMER GET AN OIL CHANGE ON A 4 YEAR OLD DQ200 DSG.

Sadly to often they do not know their arse from elbow at the Service Desks.

OK.

So they are telling you prices of stuff including those not required like the DSG Oil Change.

I would try and find a good VW Independent Specialist with all the gear and more than just ideas on making money out of current customers.

Canoe my friend these people are trying to seriously rip you off and you need to stay away from these thieves because that is what they are:- 1. Discs will always go slightly rusty in wet weather if you haven't used the car for a few days but the rust rubs off in seconds directly you drive out of your front gate and stop at the first junction, they are usually good for at least 30k miles unless you drive with your foot resting on the brake pedal. 2. At the first service I asked my main dealer what some of the service intervals were:- Spark plugs 40k, air filter 40k, pollen filter 20k but leave if it is still clean (personally I don't bother because I don't suffer from hay fever). Cam belt is five years not four and that is only a VW recommendation not a must do, if it still in good condition leave it for another year. I know nothing about a DSG oil change but it seems an expensive job so do your own research before having it done; I have found VW tech dept quite helpful when emailing them. Have you got an independent garage in your area with a good reputation?

DSG Oil Changes are £0.00 with Fabia Servicing because no Oil Change is required.

If the Oil needs changed because Skoda / VW Group need to do another World Wide Recall or Service Campaign as they called in 2014 then they can pay for that.

People do change oil in DQ200's because they want to do that and there is 'How to in page 12 of the Famous DQ200 DSG clutch slip' thread in this section.

Pollen filters can be vacuumed and the area cleaned if that is all they need, but pollen is not the only issue and they can get damp and foosty so smelly and full of bacteria.

The gearbox oil is sealed for life, however a car than has done say 80k miles in a city and gearbox is getting bit jerky will probably benefit from gearbox fluid change.  But for 18k of normal driving completely not needed.

Pollen filter, if anyone in your household suffers from allergies or hay fever then their comfort probably should come first, but it could wait.

Cambelt is 5 years (not 4 years), and that is more advisory so not yet.

The UK is not in the desert, we get rain, so will get rust on brake discs, which soon clears off.  Pads unlikely to need doing.

Personally I wouldn’t trust a garage that is suggesting so many extras, and would take my business elsewhere

You want a filter for the air coming in the car and you want it flowing through a clean unclogged filter.

If you do not care about air getting filtered then bin the Pollen / Cabin filter.

Let the wind blow high and the wind blow low. #
