*HELP* Tire pressure, power steering and ESP light on with trouble starting the car

Featured Replies

I have a 2010 skoda superb MKII and this Monday I found the car struggled a bit to start and then the next day the car can't start completely and the three warning light came on. After I jump started it and drove for couple minutes the light went off. But the warning lights kept coming on every time I start the car. The battery was changed with less than 2 months. The multimeter reading when ignition off is 11.4V and 11.2V when ignition is on. After couple minutes of drive the battery showed a figure of 13.4V on the meter. I found similar topics but none of them fits mine perfectly. Thought to ask it on the forum and see where I should be looking into first. (Planning to change the battery for a shot as it's in the warranty still) ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE?

Most likely your battery is dead. With ignition off the reading should be around 12.5 V. 11.4V is way to low.

Thanks. Consider I have only had it changed for less than 2 months I was worried I might be in some bigger trouble

Just to be sure that your battery charge isn't consumed by a consumer: If you are handy with a multimeter, you can also measure the current consumption when the car is parked. After a few minutes this should be around 10 mA. I measured mine a few months ago (had a dead battery as well) and the current consumption was only 6 mA, which was excellent.

My battery was very dead, after a few days the voltage had dropped to around 10.5V.

Since both the original and the replacement (Varta E44) batteries only lasted about 4.5 years, I have now changed to an Exide EA770 battery. Hope that one lasts longer.

I just tested it and it showed up around 6mA. Guess I was just ran into a bad quality battery then...

Have you tried charging the battery with a mains charger.

Charge it for at least 24hrs then check the voltage.

A lot of cars are doing short journeys only at the moment which doesn't allow the battery to charge sufficiently from the cars alternator.
