Retrofitting Android Auto Head Unit into a 2015 fabia?

Featured Replies

My wife has recently bought a 2015 fabia (with mirrorlink not smartlink) without GPS and wants to use android auto
how difficult is it to do this and is it the only way (i presume aftermarket is probably not an option. is this something a dealer (or if not a skoda specialist) can do?

I've attached photo of her head units software info anyway...

You must have the glove box unit (installed behing the screen, to the left of the glove box) replaced - either to Bolero 5Q0035842x or Amundsen 5Q0035874x (x - A, B or C). New unit must be hacked.

I am just about to purchase a September 2015 Skoda Fabia 1.2. The car will be for my wife and she would really like to have the apple carpaly, so she can listen to her spotify and use the google maps. (Bolero is non nav)

I checked the system page and Device no. is 5Q0035842A, Hardware  H24, Software is blank, media codec is 2101.0.0.8

Can anyone tell me what I need to do, if anything to enable carplay/android auto. Could someone also send me the latest software/firmware version.

Thanking you all in advance

Our Fabia is a similar age and has the Device number and hardware number you gave above, but ours has software 0245 and media codec 2101.0.0.10

It has "smartlink". It definitely works with Android auto for "satnav" on the Bolero screen - but it needs the USB lead in, and bluetooth paired to work. I have not used it for streaming.

I believe "smartlink" should work with Apple play, but I don't use apple stuff so I can't confirm if it does.

@PAB567 will likely know if it will work,  and if the missing "0245" software in the display is significant.

Can you not take wife and her phone to try it on the car to see if it all works before you buy?

Downlink and read the Bolero guide from the link below before you go:

P.S. edited to add - the guide is a one size fits all for multiple versions and includes a _lot _of stuff which is irrelevant.

It's still worth a look though.

Thanks John510, Im pretty sure it will work. Might need to update the firmware, but hardware seems to be able to cope. Worst case I have to buy a new unit,  Where can we get the latest update?

PAB567 is the man for updates - there's a very long thread not far away:

Hi all, I have a skoda fabia 2015 that doesn't have sat nav. Do you know if a EBILAEN or AutoAbc module can give me android auto?
