Hi, hopefully the pictures and links will explain this simple mod. It takes about 10 minutes excluding glue drying time. The springs bought are 16mm od, 8mm id and 50mm long if you want to use washers or 55mm if you dont. They need to compress by about about a third (ie from 55mm down to 35mm). The washers are 16mm od, 8mm id, 2mm thick. My Gas struts could support the boot open but were worn so I replaced them anyway.

The washers are not needed but are a nice touch, if the spring is glued to remain at the top support it wont remain there for long, I retained mine with heatshrink tubing but that still broke up after a couple of months, having them loose is no big deal other than aesthetics and them sometimes sticking then dropping and sounding like Zebedee!!

 

£30 sounded expensive until I realised that you replaced the struts as well.

 

Its a mod that I would like to do on my Yeti but I dont think the geometry would allow it, if it did the spring would have to be so strong that I would not be able to close the boot.

Some will be very interested to know what struts were used. And that glue is about £10 a bottle, Lol.
