Front Windscreen Washers

Featured Replies

Hi.

If anyone can help would be really appreciated.

Front windscreen washers not working. Can hear the usual noise from the pump clearly but not a drop of water seen. Wipers working fine. Rear washers and wipers are working fine too.

Any suggestions?

First job see if any water leaks out on the floor front of the car if so you have a broken pipe , if ok no leaks what some times happens the jets get blocked from soap suds or car wax the only way i cleared mine was to use a £1 can of air used from poundland and inserted the red straw in the end of the jet wrapped a small bit of rag around it and kept pressing can every 1 or 2 seconds did this both sides and then kept trying washers after each blast and after few tries they started working again they need to be used on a regular basis, you could use a bike pump or an air line but not to much pressure as you will blow the pipes connections  off or damage valves in pump

Without sounding too obvious, have you got enough fluid in the reservoir? You may find the rear packs up after the front and so still has fluid, whilst the front can't reach the fluid level. Logically, you would think the rear would stop first but then, most people are lazy enough not to care about the rear working so if it still does and the fronts don't, filling up will remain a priority!

After that, perhaps there is a blockage. You can disconnect the little cable that feeds the front jets and see if fluid comes out when operated but be careful not to lose the little connectors retaining clip as they are only plastic so if you drop it somewhere, even a magnet will not help you retrieve it. A new plug will only be a few quid, though.
