1.4 TSI , Timing chain upgrade kit... ?

Featured Replies

Does Skoda sell a complete timing chain upgrade kit for the 1.4 TSI engine as they do for the 1.2 TSI engine ?   :unsure:

....Anyone know the VAG part number and what the kit contains ?

@2stroke

Sorry no idea, was there a particular issue in certain years after the Euro 4 engines were discontinued?

If it is the Euro 5 emission engines then which of the 1.4TSI's are you asking about, is it those with just Turbo or with Turbo & ACT, or the Twinchargers?

My question only concerns 1.4 TSI engines that have timing chain regardless of power output.

* EA-111  ---> 1.4 TSI  =  Timing chain.
(  * EA-211  ---> 1.4 TSI  =  Timing belt. )

There is no 'upgrade' then to my knowledge, just a TPI issued on measuring chain length on some engines such as the CTHE twincharger.

I think the kit was revised from around 2010 or 2011 onwards.

So any new chain kit after this date should be the revised kit.

It was the early TSI from 2009 that had the most issues.

There were several revisions over the years, but the major revisions that finally address the poor designs were in 2012 for the 1.2tsi and 2015 for the 1.4tsi.

Early 1.4tsi failures were due to the chain supplier using clapped out tooling to punch holes in the chain links.

It's in a grey box right above the photo if you follow xman's link, and in the link itself there if you look carefully: 03C 198 229 C
