New codes 2004 VRS AUQ

Featured Replies

Sorry if this has been covered before but got a few new codes on the reader last night and have a few questions needing answers too if you could help.

16795 sec air in system incorrect air flow

17608 turbocharger recir valve mechanical malfunction

16804 catalyst system banking efficiency below threshold

now my theory on these is that if i delete the SAI N112 and N249 this should clear up the codes and make the car drive better. Would this be the case?

Also IF i did decide to do these what components would i need to complete the deletes? I know about the SAI resistor and blanking plate but for the N112/N249 deletes would it just be running a new boost pipes to the intake? I have read BOWDERS write up on the deletes etc and wish to know if its easy enough OR if anyone who has done these deletes before and has VAGCOM would like to pop down to Plymouth and they will be rewarded for the trouble.

All these deletes can be done and then mapped out be a decent ecu remapper. You can use resistors and plenty of people, but I think doing it properly will eliminate any future issues. A couple of topics down we talked about the deletes, so be sure to check it out. I think it was in nutters post.

Here’s the post;

For the valve just replace that with a genuine one from TPS/Skoda. They’re around £50.

Just a small update. I reset the codes and drove the car. Within 20 miles the same 2 codes came up again:

17608 turbocharger recir valve mechanical malfunction

16795 sec air in system incorrect air flow

now i had a look to see if there was a split pipe and low and behold there is. The little pipe from the top of the DV to the Combi valve has split big time and needs replaced. I was going to delete the system anyway but i need the car back ASAP. And i dont want to drive the car with no vacuum hose connected to the top of the DV. I went to Halfords and bought 3.2mm vacuum hose and 5.0mm vacuum hose and neither fit over the combi valve. Can anyone tell me the part number for the little hose that connects the DV to the combi? Or what thickness hose i could use to go over the combi valve? My issue is that if i buy a 8mm inner diameter hose to go over the combi then it’ll be too big to be properly secured on the DV which is approx 4mm

Many thanks in advance

Managed to do a wee temporary repair by using a 6mm plastic connector and squeezing it onto the new 5mm vacuum hose. I used the original broken hose and shortened it to fit the combi unit in the original way and then using metal clips to secure it at all the connecting areas.

Will speak to Murray Skoda in Plymouth tomorrow order a new hose. I was going to delete the n249 n112 and sai systems but at the moment i need my car as on call for work.

If anyone can find out the part number for the hose that goes from the top of the DV to the combi unit that would be great as it would save me trying to explain the part over the phone.

I'm 99% certain the number you need is 06A145691AF, but be warned, they are part of a set and are about £100.

Cheers I’ll give them a wee call tomorrow and see what the price is. If its too much then off with the whole system at some point. Fingers crossed as they say. I only need the small hose that goes from the DV to the combi unit so here’s hoping they can sell that separate from the whole system.

I’m assuming you mean that i need item no 56.... 1 set of vacuum pipes?

Well gave Skoda a call this morning to be told that they can’t sell the hose separate from the rest of the vacuum system and i need to buy the whole set of pipes...... £181!!!!!!!!!!

Well the temp repair i done will need to last till i either find a car that’s being broke for the part or i can find the time and space to do the delete myself. If anyone knows of any AUQ engine thats being broken, or has a TPS account and can get a better price for me than £181 then I’ll sort them out for the money and postage etc.

Just another wee update on the car. Changed all the abs sensors today front to back and still have brake pedal kick-back intermittently on braking just before a full stop. The pedal only kicks back at 1-2mph weird one. Anyway the kill count for the job was 3 disc retaining screws and 2 abs sensor bolts. What is the opinion on running without the disc retaining screws and does anyone know the size of the abs sensor bolts as I’m going to need to drill the broken ends out and replace them.

Next wee job for the car is to replace the n.s.f window tint as its peeling away, replace the driver side rear window regulator and find a wee screw that will hold the door locking barrel in place. When i replaced the Bowden cable a few weeks ago the bloody screw fell into the door itself and try as i may i cannot recover the screw.  Any suggestions for the wee screw would be much appreciated. And tomorrow its going into national tyre and auto care in Plymouth via Tyre shopper online for 4 new Avon Z7 tyres and tracking. Went for a different size to the one on the car now. Currently running 205/50/17 93W going for 225/40/17 94W

The disc screw number is N 10648301, last time I bought 4 in 2018, they were 35p each. that number crosses over with other VAG models, so you can get them from VW dealers as well as Skoda dealers. Running without screws can be a real PITA if you need to do a quick wheel change without it all floating about.

The screw itself changes from a philips head to a torx, and is an M6 x 16

The ABS sensor bolts can be 1 of 2 options, Either an M6 x 16 or an M6 x 22, both are socket hex screws. Part numbers are N 01474011 for the M6 x 16, and N 0147348 for the M6 x 22.

Low speed ABS kick can also be caused by a cracked sensor ring on the drive shaft, but is fairly easy to check with the caliper and pads out of the way and a powerful torch.

On the door screw, I think from memory it is an M5 x 9, but that is not a certainty, as it is about 3 years since I last did a lock. Can you not get it back out with one of the extendable magnet tools that are available like this one - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/383705242028?epid=2008906134&hash=item59569d59ac:g:4poAAOSwNxxfUSuI

The link was just to show what I mean, I have not used the seller so you might be wise to search for the best seller as always.

Hope it helps.

Phil.

Phil.

Thank you for the reply. Gonna do a few searches on those part numbers to try source some parts.

Just got back from the tyres and they (national tyres) refused to do the tracking because its a lowered car. So booked it into a performance specialist for Monday to do the alignment. They also said i need to changed the 2 front wheel bearing as they are on their on the way out so is it worth doing them first before i do the alignment? Not sure on that one.

Also been advised to change a drive shaft seal as its leaking oil and a ball joint as the boot has split. Need to get a look again when i get a set of ramps. Plus there usual oil leaks.

Ordered 2 new door lock barrel screw M5 x 9 from the main dealer and they want a grand total of………. 84p. Priced up brake disc and abs screw and they only come in packs of 25 and they are priced at 17.10 and 54.09 respectively. Not a chance I’m paying that for 4 screws for the discs and 4 bolts for the abs sensors. So ordered the door lock barrel screw. Pick up Tuesday.

Also thanks to Kentphil1 for putting me in the right direction with part no’s etc. I’m useless with searching for things especially parts so once again good sir thank you

If your dealer wants to sell you 25 screws, find another dealer. Both my Skoda main agent and my local VW agent will, and have sold to me on an individual basis.

If you have a TPS local to you, they will sell on an as needed basis. If all else fails, just use a local trade screw supplier from the yellow pages, as you have the thread size and length. My local screw specialist does 10 M6 screws for £1 regardless of length - something to think on?.

Copper grease on the disc screws is your friend for easy removal next time.

As for the thanks, not necessary, its my pleasure buddy, hope you get sorted, as it sounds like you have a PITA parts man at your local dealer - they are not all like that, mine are good as gold.

I do have a TPS local to me but stopped selling to me as he said my company that i work for was blocked for some reason. Don’t know why but they just wont serve me. Ive had loads from them the last 2 years including a fuel pump steering rack etc. Will have a look at other options for some abs securing screws. And I will be using copper grease this time, as everything I’ve touched on the car is either seized or needed some kind of heat to remove. If he’s as good as you say will you ask him the price for 4 abs sensor bolts and I’ll l sort you out? Lol

So far I’ve ordered parts from online car parts: wheel hubs and bearings for both front and back, a window regulator for the rear driver side and 4 brake disc screws, got 2 door lock screws on order from Skoda for the handsome price of 84p so now just need them abs sensor bolts. Then i need to address an oil leak somewhere so need to have a good root around next time I have the car on the lift and see what’s what. Plus when its really warm like it has been down in good ol Plymouth the car struggled for power so need to address the intercooler somewhere. Maybe clean it out or see if i can save up for a FMIC. It’s all good fun as they say.

Ive been looking about for a replacement bolt for the ABS sensors. What’s the opinion on this from screwfix?

They look ok, just check the allen head is well formed, as it may not be an issue now when you fit them, but if the head is shallow, that will be a real pain in a few months if you have to remove them again for some reason.

Do you not have a place like this - https://www.versatilefixings.com/   local to you?.  I use independants like this all the time for nuts and fixings. Have you checked your local internet for such a place?.

I’ll l certainly have a wee look. See what’s available.

I’ve ordered the m6x20mm for the sake of £5.59. If its a no no then I’ve only lost a fiver compared to much more.

Afternoon people. Just thought i would do a wee update on the car. Got all the parts i need now to do the repairs:

2 new wheel bearings and hubs for both front and back, new rear window regulator, door lock barrel screw, brake disc retaining screws and i managed to find screws from screwfix that fit the abs sensors. They were a pain to find the correct part so took a chance on and bought these and done a test fit to the new hubs and they fit really well. Nice and secure. So if anyone needs to find something like that the screw size that works is M6x20mm from screwfix: £5.59

and today i though i would give the car a wee wash and polish. First time for a good while. It’s been used as no more than a trundlewagon to get to and from work so treated it to a snow foam, wash and polish. So here’s a few pics. Needs a good machine polish and the usual few wee rust spots starting and a nice hole in the rear bumper courtesy of a moped but for now it’ll do.
