First oil and filter change

Featured Replies

Hello guys , just bought 1.4 tsi estate, and Skoda said use castrol edge 5w40 oil , but my question is should I use Skoda original parts or Bosch?

I tend to use OEM parts as much as possible on my vRS estate as you get some come back if it goes wrong I have use Bosch part before and there good got Bosch plugs and coll pack in at the moment and wiper blades had no problems with them at all

Ok thanks, u think Skoda did the coil packs the same time the plugs were done?

@Nealgingerlovegod  Welcome to the forum.

Do you mean a Skoda Dealership Employee said use Castrol 4w 40 FS ?   (Thank goodness there is someone paying attention.)

Skoda the manufacturer actually recommend

Castrol 5w 30 FS III which is long life oil for fixed or variable servicing.  (That is VW 504 00 / 507 00)

I recommend 5w 40 FS which is perfect for Twinchargers on Fixed Service Intervals.

Skoda show VW502 00 so 5w 40 FS for Fixed Service intervals.    It is a pity they ever changed that & some Dealership said they did not use that.

I do not recommend Castrol though,

any 5w 40 FS to VW 502 00 is what you need.

A dealer does not usually change ignition coil unless they need replacing and the OEM plugs were marked VW but were NGK's.

 Bosch are fine, or DENSO.

You might well require a bit more than 3.6 litres of oil when replacing after an oil and filter change to have the oil at Area A of the dipstick with the oil at operating temp and parked on the flat after a few minutes.

Cold dipped the oil should be above the cross hatch and on the flat bit.

Great thanks very much, what brand if castrol isn’t good enough?

I was told by another vrs lover to change the oil every 10k or once a year so it’s only been 8k but just the car and never done oil change so might just do it now.

That was great advice from them.  9,400 mile or each year is what you need as the Oil change interval with VW502 00 / 5w 40 fs as it is not Long Life Oil.

The first Twinchargers 2009-2010 were not given a code for variable / flexible service intervals.

(There are plenty CTHE like yours using 5w 30 FS III with no issues.  But using 5w 40 FS and changing oil and filter annually is a good thing IMO.)

Castrol is not bad, it is just not special.

the 5w 40 FS Castrol is often reduced in B&M or other discount stores, that is worth getting if much cheapness.

Quantum / Fuchs is what most Main Dealers use,  i use the oil from Comma or ASDA, Tesco or anyone selling it at a good price.

if the oil meets the spec required, the brand plays a part only on the price really.
