Noise when setting off!

Featured Replies

I've done a search but cannot find anything

When setting off, usually from cold I'm getting a strange 'rubbing' noise

I thought it was from brakes as I can feel a little vibration through the steering when it happens, but I've changed these and its still there

I've linked a video of me driving over my phone to try and capture it

The noise you can hear which sounds like the horn, is the noise.. not the horn!

Deffo coming from the front of the car, poss clutch?

All advice welcome

Thanks

Andy

that sounds filthy.....

when exactly does it happen as you pull away?

is it worse if you pull away uphill? does it happen if pulling away downhill only on the idle?

Sounds exactly like the noise the horn on my A35 made when the radiator overheated and steam was ejected over it, it used to do it after I had switched off and got out.

It also made a similar brief noise when the clutch was engaged.

no difference flat or hill

generally a cold issue, once it’s warm, it’s less or not present!

feels like a dry joint, or abrasion issue

alternator clutch maybe?

Well done that man, I reckon you might be the prize winner.

The OP can try the same experiment with a full electric load, lights, heated screens, blower, wipers etc, also with the aux drive belt removed to see if the noise gets worse or goes away.

Guys

Thanks for the replies

It did feel abrasion related, but ironically, since I've had my wheels refurbed... its stopped!

Cant fatham it, it could be a total coincidence

I'll keep the above in mind for if it comes back!

I'll update this for other use if I pin point and solve
