Dashcam hardwire fuse rating

Featured Replies

Hi all

So I’ve found out exactly which fuse I need to piggy back for my dash cam but because I lost my piggy back, I’ve ordered a replacement from Halfords.
Now the new part does not come with the dash cam 2 amp fuse. So my question is am I able to just use a 3 amp fuse instead of a 2 amp? Can’t find 2 Amps anywhere.

Hopefully you have my answer on that one.  Typically the smallest amp fuse for cars is 3A (to allow for start-up surge currents).

The fuse taps I used for my blackvue camera have 20amp Fuses in them that's what blackvue suggested anyway lol.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I played it safe and just bought a new hardwire kit

The fuse is only to protect the downstream cable...

I'm sure 5a is fine in most instances, it's certainly what I've used a few times :)
