Karoq Amundsen with multiple phones - what's it like?

Featured Replies

Hello All,

I have a brand new Karoq SE-L with the Amundsen infotainment on order for September. The car is going to be equally used between myself and my wife, and we are mainly CarPlay users. Can anyone share any experience of what it is like using multiple phones with the car? My concern is that I don't want to be faffing disconnecting the wife's phone from bluetooth if she's the passenger, and vice versa every time we are in the car together.

Does the system allow you to implicitly select a phone to connect via smart link, or are we better off just connecting via USB-C ? Is there some form of user profile function I'm not aware of perhaps?

(I should also say that I own a legitimate VCDS HEX-CAN if that can enable anything...)

Thanks for any advice!

It works surprisingly well, my wife and I are sharing the car (MY 2021) and we both use only CarPlay because the built in navigation seems much harder to use.

To answer your question: There is no need to connect via usb-c - connection via bluetooth (wifi?) works perfectly fine all the time and I only pull out my phone to charge it in the Qi charger if my trip is longer than 20-30 minutes or if my battery is low, so majority of the time your car key and phone never leave your pocket and you will never forget to take your phone from the car by mistake :D (major life improvement!!!). When both of your phones are within the reach of the car, then the one that was connected last will be automatically reconnected to the infotainment unit. In case you want to switch to the other phone you need to go in the main screen of the CarPlay (the grid layout with apps) and press on the Skoda "app" which will exit the CarPlay screen and return you to the Skoda infotainment UI, where you will be presented with a list of available CarPlay devices to connect to and then you just pick your device and you are done.

As a bonus if you use Apple Maps for navigation you will receive the navigation instructions in the VC in addition to the infotainment screen -

Thanks, exactly what I wanted to know! Doesn't sound like too much hassle.

Sadly, I didn't order the VC, it was a bit too much cost wise, and I really wanted the ACC so specced that. Interestingly, the SEL doesn't come with wireless charging, it was an eye watering £270 option. Something I will retrofit once the car is out of warranty.

That said, I am hoping the basic nav signs show up in the standard cluster for Apple Maps. No real problem if it doesn't, but might be nice.
