Throttle position sensor readings on Carista

Featured Replies

I've had the updated Carista and had a play with the settings, as you do :)

Anyway, a small matter of concern has arisen in that the throttle position sensor is 14% at idle, and 80% at wide full open.

I've tried resetting the throttle to no avail.

I'm not entirely comfortable with how the diesel throttle works; should I be looking at the throttle pedal, or the motor assembly on the air intake known by most as the throttle valve (cleaned 6 months ago) ?

Hi

My understanding of the diesel throttle is that it is used under certain engine running conditions to partly restrict intake air flow, which encourages recirculated exhaust gas flow to the intake manifold.  Diesels had no need of a throttle before the days of EGR systems. Engine power is determined (as it always was) by the amount of fuel injected.  As long as there is enough (or more than enough) oxygen in the incoming air to burn it completely, then all is well.

A secondary use of the throttle is to briefly cut off intake air at the moment the engine is switched off, to give a clean stop without shudder.
