OEM vs. aftermarket mud flaps

Featured Replies

Are people running OEM or aftermarket mud flaps? I'm seeing 'universal' mud flaps for £5-10 or Skoda OEM mud flaps for £45-75

Quite a big price differential, and it feels like a part that could easily be 3rd party and perform well. Is that the case?

I fitted front and rear oem ones to my car shortly after I bought it. They clip and screw into existing mounting points. It took about 20 minutes without removing the wheels (a very stubby screwdriver helped though).

You'll need to figure out how to fit universal ones yourself. They're likely to be less secure and unlikely to follow the contours of the car.

OEM definitely worth the extra.

Yes - I agree.  If you are clever and have the budget, you might be able to get a set at a good price on kopacek.com / superskoda - which were selling fronts and rears for £15 each.

you've got to take into account P&P, weight and tax though.

Nice, thanks guys - I've seen a pair of OEM on eBay for £45 inc. postage so this seems like a good bet. Happy to pay more if it reduces hassle / regret!

I bought dirt cheap ones from Ali-Express for my Octavia 2, they were a very good fit and looked very good but the material was more plastic than rubber, it was flexible enough to fit but became cracked by an impact, I can't rule out that it wasn't kerbed but a proper mudflap I would expect to be ripped off before splitting.

I bought mine from Kopacek also. Strangely the fronts fitted perfect, but the rears needed some adjustment to fit reasonably. Had to pull them down hard around the bodywork and clamp the bottom of the mud flap to the edge of the plastic bumper and use a bolt with 2 large washers either side of the bumper to keep them in place. There is still a small gap between the mud flap and the bodywork though. Before you say it, I did choose carefully the correct mud flaps for the model of my car. Maybe somehow Kopacek got their part numbers mixed up on Octavia models.

@roaddetective - which part number did you use?

I used 5E0075101 which fitted fine on the rear of my '18 vRS hatch. There is a tiny gap but you wouldn't notice it unless looking for it...

Apologies for a somewhat mucky car :D

Can't of course remember the part number now. Although I have just looked on Kopacek website and can't find the ones I ordered anymore. I see the ones with your part number state, "Fits Octavia 111 before facelift models". As my car is a facelift model, I remember reading that and ordering flaps shown further down their list of parts. These ones stated they fitted my facelift Octavia. Very strange they no longer show my flaps for sale!  That small gap you have shown at the bottom of the flap, is like mine, but I think my gap is at least a couple of mm bigger.

I think there are two versions:

- 5E0075101 for the pre-facelift excluding the vRS and Scout

- 5E0075101A for the facelift excluding the vRS and Scout

I'm not sure how much difference there is but 5E0075101 seems to be the preferred option for the hatchback facelift vRS :)

....which actually do fit the Scout and the VRS, although not officially supported. 😁

I picked the worse part number then, dam. Can you still get bits from Kopacek now? If so, might get the other rear flaps.

Correct. 5E0075101 fitted my FL vRS perfectly. 5E0075111 at the other end

After looking at langers2k photos and numerous posts about the flap part number, I have just ordered another set of rear mud flaps, 5E0075101. I can only think the ones Kopacek showed for my model of car originally were wrong. Maybe that is why they are no longer shown on their parts list for the Octavia MK 3. When the new ones arrive, I will take the original ones I fitted off my car and dump them in the bin.

I also ordered these front and rear as well yesterday (that bloke on ebay is gonna wonder what's going on) I can see developing road rash being a problem without them.  Small project for sunday afternoon.  Let's hope they are as simple to fit as everyone says.  (I don't have the best of luck with DIY projects).

@Roaddetective - sorry if off topic but did you get your stage one remap figures with or without the Scopion exhaust?

So for a FL Octavia estate 2019, I should get: 5E0075101 and not: 5E0075101A?

The remap was done before the Scorpion exhaust. If I fit an induction system, I guess I could now go to a stage two map. Happy with the power as is though.

  • 2 weeks later...

Ordered some replacement rear mud flaps for my Octavia, based on the part number you guys have been telling me. Got them from Kopacek and they arrived in 2 weeks. Stuck them on today and they are a perfect fit.

REAR MUD FLAPS.jpg

I fitted rear ones last week ... though had to be in the late evening when it was cooler (was a scorching week),  they were simple enough to install and fit well.  I didn't bother with the fronts... they look a little more challenging given the need to have to drill a hole and the side "clips" look like they might be interesting to wrestle on.
