Where is the security code for the Symphony head unit?

Featured Replies

I'm half way through stripping out my stereo and putting the standard stuff back in , but I can't see the code for the stereo anywhere in the manuals.

In the pack was the little plastic fob thingy with a few stickers on it , one of which was a 4 digit number but that doesn't appear to be it.

Should it have been on a separate card somewhere?

I vaguely recollect something about it being on the first sheet of the service schedule?

Well it appears it *was* the 4 digit code in the plastic fob.

Despite rejecting the code last time and displaying 2 to show I was on the second attempt it did seem to do the job as I just wandered back out to the car and powered it up and it was working without me doing anything else.

Oh , and it really does sound crap!

I remember now why I'd removed it after less than a fortnight

You may find it 'remembered' the code Alex.

If it goes back into the same car the code isn't required AFAIK.

Yep, usually if you switch it on with the ignition on it should self learn.

Unless the number is stick int he audio manual you dont get it with the car.

I recently put the standard stuff back into my old vRS and can confirm that once reconnected it get the code from the ecu. Follow below and it should work.

1) put key in ignition and set to pos 1.

2) power up radio and the word "safe" should appear. Make no attempts to enter any codes and after a short while the radio should start playing.

This procedure doesnt work with the ignition key removed. Also something worth noting is that despite not being used for 4 years my old symphony HU remembered all its presets and settings.
