Karoq 1.5 dsg 2021 battery discharge

Featured Replies

Hi,

My Karoq 1.5 dsg battery seems to discharge after 1 days no mileage.

Is this usual?

Do you have a dashcam or similar plugged in that would drain the battery.
Do you use the car regularly, with a decent run to give the battery a chance to charge.

If you are not using the car regularly it may be wise to invest in a charger to keep the battery topped up.

I have dashcam plugged in,so will disconnect when not in use,and charge vehicle overnight if unused for 1+ days.

It may well have been the dash cam, as the 12v socket is continually live.

Depending on your confidence and skill there are ways to overcome this...

Check this post for details on how to do it...

Switched power hint.

As an extension to the above I changed (in my Octavia) the way the 12v sockets operated.

Each fused circuit consists of a 12v power side (known as a bus) and the load side, which is connected to whatever device requires power.

The fuse acts as a fail safe bridge between the two sides.

Using the piggy back leads described in the linked post, you connect (using a proper crimped connector) a second piggy back lead so that you now end up with what looks like a powered set of blades. If you do not insert any fuses into this new lead only 1 terminal will be live. It is protected by the fuse at the source end of the piggy back lead.

you now take power from a switched circuit (47 being one option) and then use the fused fly lead connect that to the LOAD side of the 12v socket.

The unfused side of the fly lead will plug into the bus side of the circuit, but the power doesn’t go anywhere.

Et Voila, 12v sockets are now only live when the ignition is turned on.

If this all sounds too complicated, there was a post somewhere on Briskoda that I used as a reference to do this, but I can’t find it any more.

A number of cars suffered from battery issues if they have the stop start system and special battery required. This stems from a bad batch of batteries last year and the lockdown leaving cars stood for months. If the battery goes completely flat and is left like this for a period, it often will not charge again or only partially charge. The AA guy who recovered my car after the second flat battery episode told me he had dealt with numerous other simmilar issues to Skoda, Seat, VW and Audi's during 2020.

My MY20 car was built in around March 2020, and I bought it in August from dealer stock. After driving it home the battery was flat the next day. I have the correct type of charger so charged it completely, but it then went flat again over next 3 days despite long trips. It had to be replaced the following week.

Your battery could be damaged and whilst just about ok for normal use, not able to work this new camera as well?

Our Karoq was ordered in Feb and built (mostly) at the end of May. It is now 'stood' somewhere awaiting an ECU chip.

I will be logging concerns over battery performance and other such things when I eventually take delivery.

If it turns out to be a dog it will be going back toute suite!
