Insurance for EU imported Octavia II

Featured Replies

I need cover for my EU import Octavia II but no insurers seem to have my trim in their database, it is an

AMBIENTE TDI, 1598cc, diesel, manual transmission estate.

Any idea how to get her insured?

I suggest you speak to someone at the insurance provider as they can often override the details if they are incorrect.

Go to a proper broker near you and/or research imported car insurance.

UK trim in the EU?

yes, adventure is an se with some extras, produced in pre facelift run out!

I had to acquire a french reg as well, supposedly within the first 3 months permanently in france, and the insurer would only issue a policy for just 3 months with a uk reg here. Just had to change the headlight units to lhd ones.

Just checked, the Ambiente/TDI is called SE/TDI in the UK. Can I just select the SE TDI which is broadly available? It would look odd that the logbook and the insurance use different nomenclature.

In the UK on the MK2, as far as I was aware it was still Classic, Ambiente, Elegance and L&K.

I believe it changed some time into the MK3, where it became the S, SE, SE-L and L&K.

Happy to be wrong.

Very hard to find info, I suspect the change was with the Facelift in 2008.

@WildGoose

What is the car exactly as in when or what  year was it built and what country was it registered in and is it registered in now and is it a left or right hand drive?

I saw plenty of MK3 that were elegance trim, so I'd be surprised (but not certain).

As George asked, what exactly do you have?

It might also help if you have the build code sticker from the boot or first page of the manual.

That will detail (in codes) what the car is/has built into it.

Type: 1z5224, variant: ACCAYCX01, Version: NFM5FM5A40510, VIN: TMBHT61ZXC21xxxxxx, engine: 1598cc TDI, Manufacturer: Skoda Auto a.s. Mlada Boleslav, Built in 12.2011 (CoC is dated January 2012), Left hand drive. Don't know where it was first registered.

It is Ambiente, suspect to be identical to UK SE, not Elegance.

Forgot to add, couldn't find the "Ambiente" designation anywhere but on my previous, German reg.

Seems to be much like the same spec then as would have been going to  the Irish Republic in 2012 except they are right hand drive.

That was and is an EU country, but then the UK that was also in the EU but used another name for spec, but then the spec for Ireland and that for the UK spec often differs.

No help though, sorry.

Yes but my point was that elegance was a UK trim level that went with classic and Ambiente.

If they were still calling the top one Elegance, then they were still calling the lower ones Classic and Ambiente.

S, SE and SE-L all came in at the same time.

Hence the if they were calling the higher model Elegance that year, then they were calling the one now called an SE and Ambiente.

What I'm saying is that I am pretty sure in the year your car was from, the UK equivalent model was called the Ambiente, not an SE.
