I hope it does too. Many thanks for this, I'll give it a try shortly.

Your experience gives lie to what I was told on the Skoda live chat, which was; the only way to get map updates is over the air.

I currently have a download taking place 👍. I was given the option of two downloads, a 2021 version and a 2022 version. Did you get that as well

I've gone for the 2022 version so I hope I've made the correct choice as I fail to understand why they'd offer a 2021 version when there's a more up to date one available.

  • I've waited until now to reply to see if my maps would update after running the car for some time. The answer is NO and I did do everything correctly. As for mountains and molehills, I don't thin

  • I don't think so, not yet at least - if ever. There was chatter here that Skoda is going to revert to self downloading maps via the Portal (I really hope they do !), so I asked the question via the on

  • When I dow nloaded only had the option of 2022, but noticed today they are both there, who knows what VW /Skoda are thinkin😉

On my laptop after I hit the download button,  the top right it opens the download details and says "zip cannot be downloaded securely", I hit the 3 dots On the right-hand side, which opens other options i then  hit "Keep" another warning opens up which says "keep anyway" which I agree to and the download starts...hope this helps

For the benefit of others who might want to try this download, after clicking on the 3 dots the next option to click on is "Open Downloads page", then click on "Keep" and "Keep Anyway"

Well I got the maps downloaded and then onto a memory stick. I've had this plugged into the C usb port in the car for 1.5 hours now (with ignition on) and nothing has changed. So either it's not working or the engine has to be running for the transfer to take place.

Not sure whether engine has to be running, but I went for a 45 min run, forgot to take the key out so it was in the usb overnight, next day when I checked it had updated, I know when I did it to a Ford Kuga the engine had to be running, not sure about Skoda, I guess you unzipped the download onto the key first?

I do know from my experience with my Kodiaq that the ignition must be switched on for the transfer to take place, but as I said, I don't know if the engine needs to be running, although Skoda does advise running the engine during the transfer because the battery is easily depleted.

Now excuse my thickness, but I don't really what what unzipping a file means.

Once the map updates had downloaded from the Portal to my laptop, I found the download and right clicked on it. This opens up a box withe several options, one of which is "Send To". I clicked on that and sent the file to "F" drive, which is my memory stick. This is the same way I did it in my Kodiaq and it worked then.

Did I do it wrongly ?

If you Havant already done it go to the portal page below and scroll down and click on mib 3 this gives the instructions for installing

https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/

You have to unpack the zip file and transfer to your usb key all items as shown in Diagram 5 ...hope this helps

Many thanks. I believe at this stage that I did do things correctly, so I'm going to have to wait until I go for a long enough drive and see what happens.

The only thing  may have gotten wrong was the formatting as I can't remember which type I chose.

have you got an original skoda usb-c cable. Connect the USB Flash Disc to your vehicle (only in the front part of the vehicle). When using a USB A Flash Disc while a USB C connector is available in the vehicle, the only option is to use a USB C Adapter (part no. 000 051 443J) from ŠKODA Genuine Accessories.

Insert the USB Flash Disc into the proper connector in the front part of the car. The vehicle uses the data on the USB disc while driving to update the required map regions. For proper updating, we recommend to leave the USB Flash Disc plugged into the vehicle connector each time you drive. can take 4 hours. when i put my vin in it only says update Columbus kamiq only comes with Amunsden

Did I do it wrongly ?  Probably   as the file on the portal is a zipped file (which means its compacted)

You download it and get a file usually with a suffix of .ZIP . You then use a program like Winzip or Zip7 or WinRAR to EXTRACT the  contents of the file to a FOLDER  on another place on the HDD.

You then COPY the CONTENTS of that FOLDER onto the root directory of your USB stick.  You do NOT copy the file you downloaded to the stick.  As Euro maps are pretty big it will possibly take an hour or so  to upload it into the Nav system.  Incidentally AFAIK MIB3 dont have an internal HDD like the MIB 2's had and so music etc has to be played from a stick as we do in our Kamiq

On the portal page there   is a manual of how to do it for each unit so go there and read it

Haven't got the suffix, but I do have a little yellow sign with a zip in it - I wondered what that was 🤔.

I've never done anything like this, I'm gonna have to experiment.

That's interesting, how are the maps stored then ?

I'm now having a go at unzipping. I don't need to download a programme to do this in Windows 10, I just right click on the file and an option box appears. I click on "Extract All" and it's doing it automatically.

I do wonder if unzipping is really necessary, as I didn't unzip the file when I did a map update in my Kodiaq and it all worked fine. The first time I ever did a map update, it only took 30 mins to transfer from memory stick to the car hard drive and that was also full European mapping.

Then again, I know little about the inner machinations of a computer, so maybe the boffins have changed a lot in the last 3 years.

They will have an SSD in them for operating files and maps but unlike the MIB2 which has a bigger capacity  and allows you to store files within it.

YES YOU DO  Why would I waste 2 hours doing it for my Tiguan if its not needed.   What you did in another model may  have no resemblance to what you have to do with this one. If you didnt have to follow that procedure why would I bother typing it all out. If you read the manual on the portal page it is exactly as I said  so I suppose its correct.  Just like the other day when I wrote up a how to for our village to do with  a change on a Govt agency . Had it step by step and it worked. Got rung up and told it was wrong and didnt work. Hmmmm  It doesnt work if you know better and alter other things that werent mentioned.  Same applies here.

With some maps inc VW there is a program called Discover Care which you download and use that to look for updates. If it finds one you follow the prompts and it downloads and unzips it direct to the SD card .  Is the only way I know that will do that.   Dont know if it works on Skoda maps but they are identical to VW maps just with a different file name. Have been using the Skoda ones in my Tig for 2 years without troubles

Also the maps are published on the portal twice a year usually in weeks 20 and 45 and remain there until updated at next scheduled time, so are available year round. If they arent there go to the VW portal and get same thing different bucket.

I have been building, using, repairing and hacking computers and programs since the days of the Atari 400 and the original  Playstation.

Son does similar and  daughter does programming so we do have a bit of working knowledge between us   LOL.

Aah, I see - I think .

Although I haven't yet gotten the mapping in the car to update, I have to say a thankyou to you and Bryfly for persisting with this. Skoda Uk stated categorically that this update could only be done OTA and although there were rumblings about them reinstating the option to do it via the Portal, they couldn't tell me if this would ever take place.

So it now looks as though they have reinstated the Portal method, or it was there all along and they'd changed the methodology. The Portal instructions certainly seem to have changed sinc July when I bought the car.

Okay, next questions 🤔.

The file from the Portal has now unzipped, so instead of being just one big file, it's now lots of separate small ones. Do I highlight all of those and then send them as a block to my memory stick - they surely don't have to be transferred individually ??

Also, I still have the memory stick containing the unzipped file plugged into the C port in my car. What will happen if I just unplug it ? Will it corrupt the MIB if a partial transfer has taken place ?

I highlighted them all and copied/pasted to my usb stick, as for the stick in the car I would suspect it has done nothing as it wasn't unzipped, but not a 100% on that..

Take stick out and put it in computer and format it    will be in EXFAT   Then you open the folder on the computer and put your mouse at top above first file and drag it down while holding the left button down   when they have all turned blue release left button and press right one and click on copy in the box that appears. Open your SD card and hold cursor over the empty space and then   r/click and "paste" them into it Stick it in the car and either turn it on and leave it for an hour or go for a drive.     Check version information for map version before and after to see if its changed.  Job done.

As said above if you didnt unzip it  to the stick it wont have found the files and wont have done anything

Have to do it all to remember as Im running windows 11 which is quite different in the way it does things.. Learning all the time    LOL

Thanks both, I'll give it go shortly. 👍

Windows 11, now there's something to look foward to. Have you loaded that onto a computer you already had, or have you bought a new computer with it pre-installed ?

Well I have the unzipped file loaded on my memory stick which is plugged in the car, but I have no plans to drive anywhere until Thurs - so fingers crossed that it works.

Just noticed Skoda update portal says I have a radio update, have downloaded it, is it the same as the map update, IE unzip on to usb key and plug into usb c on car?, When unzipped it appears to be just radio station logo's....

Found the instructions,  what a palava, you have to do it individually for each station , don't think I will bother..

I bought a new motherboard, CPU and memory and rebuilt it myself.   Then installed from the Media Creation Tool and it works fine. No files or data was lost.

Had to do it as my old CPU was a generation 6 which is not supported by Windoze 11. Even my Microsoft Surface laptop is not supported.

I didn't bother with rado logs at all. I never listen to the radio anyway. My maps still haven't updated and I've driven the car for well over an hour so far.
