Power Steering Default Mode

Featured Replies

Using the Carista app plugged into the port of my 2018 Karoq Edition 1.5 PSI DSG it gives me the option of changing the power steering mode:-

1. Chosen By Profile Selection Button (do I have one of these buttons on my Edition?)

2. Comfort

3. Automatic

4. Dynamic

5. Default

If I wanted to have more power assistance when parking or slowly manoeuvring is there a better setting to pick instead of "default"? I do prefer a lighter steering to a heavier one. Thanks.

I suspect it is in automatic and determines the setting depending on what the car is doing?

As far as I know it can also be changed by selecting different driving modes such as sport from the menu(not by using the gear selector though?).

I did not notice any difference when I used sport mode rather than drive when I tried it though so now only ever change to eco mode as sporty gear selection and engine set for performance can be gained in either eco or drive with the gear selector.

There are options you are unlikely to have though as expensive, which allow you to change the suspension response?

Sport makes the steering feel heavier, with it in drive and ECO being the sane and making the steering feel really light.

The Steering Assistance settings used to be clearer which were suited for 'Disabilities' or Infirmities the same as for brake assist.

Those buying 'Used /Pre owned' and Ex Motability cars should not assume the car is on Factory Settings as many are not put back to Factory Setting before being put to Auction or into the Trade. They may be set as the were when the PDI was done, or hand controls fitted etc.

I used to change the setting with different tyre widths or winter tyres and winter driving a setting to less assist.

Could that you explain why the 5 year old very low mileage Fabia we have just found for my daughter has the lever missing which releases the steering column so it can be adjusted?

The first user for 3 years was almost certainly a motability  user?

No obvious damage and I couldn’t come up with a reason before for it to be missing? Some form of hand control, since removed, as it is also a rare Fabia automatic which we were looking for.

The supplying dealer hadn’t noticed and has ordered a new steering column to rectify this issue as the steering wheel is fixed and can’t be adjusted at the moment

Obviously not one of my ex Motability cars, mine have all been up to and beyond the 60k 3 year mileage
