2.0 TDI 150PS Engine rattle and slight “misfire”

Featured Replies

Hi guys, first post on the forums!

has anyone noticed a very tinny top end rattle when lightly accelerating or maintaining say 30mph in 4th and the occasional stutter/flutter as almost like a little misfire? It’s been driving me bonkers since owning the car and I cannot get to the bottom of it. I’ve tried a month of various different fuels including V-Power to no avail.

sounds to me like injector issues, however runs like a dream. Happens when engine is cold and hot too, so ruling out that.

when accelerating hard the engine does make quite a growl which is unusual compared to previous models, so could be an injector slightly out I suppose?

it’s a MY2018 Facelift 5E with the 2.0TDI 150PS 6 Speed Manual?

Im tempted to take it back to the dealer for investigation as I have the dreaded MQB platform lower arm squeak on the front end too that they can sort at the same time.

I think it sounds like a dealer visit is due.  I suspect your initial diagnosis is probably right.  Injectors do fail, but the performance issues will probably only be shown on a scan.

Mine has similar from brand new..cruising at constant city speed, at some point for a split of a second feels like someone lift slightly the pedal and returns it back.

May or may not be related. Still living with the issue, no fix and hasn’t got much worse, although slightly more noticeable now.

I do however have a sneaky suspicion that when the water pump a timing belt were changed the timing was not set as accurate as before.
