Scala,front tyre wear.

Featured Replies

My Scala has done 12K miles, and the front tyres are almost due for replacement! Anyone have an issue with this sort of tyre wear please?

what depth of tread have you got left, and what sort of tyres are they ?

I still have 5mm of tread left after 11k

So you're running them under-inflated.

It is very strange after only 12k. Maybe indeed to little pressure in them for fast wear. But doesnt the scala have auto pressure checks?

TPMS /Tyre Pressure Monitor System is warning just if a tyre deflates from what it was at or the tyres were at when the TPMS was last set.

The OP will now with the next tyres fitted to do a swap front to rear at maybe every 6,000 miles or so,

or it is a case of tyre pressures set correctly for the cars usage / weight carried / season and have the tracking checked and adjusted if pothole or kerbs are hit.

Good Year Eagles. 12,500 miles about 4mm but look quite worn.

1.5 engine, easy to spin front wheels on acceleration, partially because it stalls easily and it wants to pull. Nippy  little bu**er.

Sounds like the pressure is too low with that wear.

I have 1.5 TSI DSG, 25000kms done and it's  still got at least 10000kms left in the Bridgestone 17inch rubber.

The pressure guide is behind your fuel filler door

My Scala was supplied with Michelin and they are wearing well (i.e. not too fast).  As above, I believe the Scala only has a passive the tyre pressure monitoring system in that it only alerts you to a loss of pressure compared to the other wheels.  The system works by monitoring and comparing the number of rotations of each wheel.  If a tyre starts to deflate then the rolling circumference reduces and hence there is a deviation in the rotation count compared with the other wheels.  If all tyres gradually loose pressure together the system is quite blind.  The system is not actively measuring tyre pressures.
