Coil light, esc light, engine management light on dash &limp mode.

Featured Replies

I've got a 2015/2016 skoda spaceback 1.6tdi 115bhp . When I start it in mornings I can hear a scratching noise in the glove box & a coil light comes on then it bleeps the stability control (ESC) traction control (TCS) comes on . When you drive off its in limp mode lack of power you have to put your foot down to get decent speed . When the engine is warmed up & you switch the engine off for roughly 5-10mins then turn the key it starts up without the lights & runs perfect like nothings happened. But occasionally it'll happen when you not expecting it same thing lights & limp mode lack of power. Taken it to a few garages they haven't got a clue. It comes up with roughly 17faults any ideas thanks in advanceScreenshot_20211015-213158_Gallery.thumb.jpg.13243f245e11a24669fcd0380ab1cf11.jpg

Have you taken it to independent garages or to an actual Skoda (or Seat, Audi or VW) main dealer who can run proper diagnostics on it?

if the former, you need to do the latter. Even with VCDS, indi garages will struggle with doing diagnostics on the latest variants of the range.

Had a recall on the vehicle  so I asked the dealership about the lights they said dpf problem & going to cost £1500 . Tried independent mechanics coming out with the same problems its like deja vue. Tried two electrical mechanics they say wiring is not the problem .one of them had a V.A.G. software he couldn't find out what it is. I noticed I get a scratching noise from behind the glove box then same thing happens all lights appear one by one. Even called the AA they said something under the car like a sensor. 🤷 given up worth a try on the forum.

The DPF will connect to the engine near the glovebox on a right hand drive Rapid.

it could well be a sensor, but the scratching noise you mentioned could just as easily be damage to the internals of the DPF flapping around as soon as exhaust starts going through it. How many miles has it done?

Its done 153000. The dpf turns on & off like it should do if it was that it would play up soon as it cuts in🤔.

Did any of the folk you mentioned check the state of the battery?

I had this on my petrol 1.2tsi, limp mode and all lights on the dash. Kept reoccurring, the battery was dying, wouldn't hold a full charge.

Although it would start the car ok the battery needs to tell the electrical systems in the car it's healthy enough. If those systems get a signal that all not well with the battery it throws up the lights and codes hence limp mode too.

That's a pretty basic description told to me by my local mechanic who solved my problem more or less straight off. He did read the codes it threw up and read throttle position sensor at fault. No such problem, the battery was below par. New battery and running sweet again, nearly 3 years ago that happened on a 4 year old battery at the time.

Worth a shot telling you about my problem.

I didn't go to the dealer for help, luckily the local garage mechanic was on the ball with these VAG cars. He's had a few in with similar problems, tests the battery straight off, solved mine without any further parts needed.

The throttle position sensor alone would have been £112, then fitting which the code showed faulty, bet the dealer would have fitted a new one straight off.

Anyways hope you get sorted, I take it it's a diesel, I'm not familiar with those I'm afraid.?
