Octavia Combi roof rails removal (result)

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I just open this topic for those users who may be interested on removing the roof rails from their Octavia II combis. I just did it and wanted to show the result if anybody is interested. Here the pics and the owner’s manual instructions to do it.

I am guessing you removed them because you think the car looks better without them, - chacun à son gout.

Different does not always equal better.

What have you done to hide the fixing holes?

I never said it looked better. Actually, the rails are back on the car. I was curious to see how the car looked without them, may be searching for a lower ride effect. And as for the holes, my idea was a bit of polyurethane foam to fill up the bigger part and a thin layer of body filler (+paint) for a finer finish.

p.s: I find a bit contradictory when you say “ chacun a son gout” and “different does not always look better” in the same message. Is your “better” the right better?

I do not have a "better" although I do have the advantage of knowing exactly what your idea regarding the holes would look like in practice.

I think some of the base model Estates or Combis may not have been fitted with roof rails, seeing your photo I realised that I have definitely seen them without.
