Heater fan and headlights not working

Featured Replies

As title says, the heater fan and the headlights are not working. As for the fan, it's not the fan itself, no power at all at fan's terminals at whatever position the switch is. As for headlights, no power at low beam, no power at high beam, no indicator lights on the clock. Passing signal works. Fuses are all right. Searching further, I found that there is no power delivery on the fan motor circuit. The same goes for the lights. I found that the relay that switches the power to the fan when the ignition is turned on, does not engage because it's primary circuit (the coil circuit) does not get any voltage.

Any clues?

Try it with the ignition switch turned to the first click round, one before the position where warning lights come on.

No change, Wino! The fan motor still doesn't turn on neither the headlights.

What I tried is to short the fan relay's (or relais, I don't know what spelling is correct!) secondary contacts and the fan was working as should, with the difference that it could be operated with the ignition off, too.

I think it must be a fault in the ignition switch.

I looked at the diagrams and yes, both headlights and heater fan are sharing a contact of the ignition switch. I have to dismantle it. Is it hard to remove it on a LHD Fabia?

I don't know, never tried (nor on RHD but I suspect the same work is needed), probably just the plastic cover under the steering wheel, two screws? Can't remember which type.

Edit: not as simple as that sadly, perhaps not surprisingly.

@WinoThank you, thank you, thank you!!!

It was the ignition switch. It was quite easy to take it out. Now I have to see if I can repair it since I'm on a journey and not easy to find spares where I am, at moment.

Yes, fast enough because I had already removed half the dashboard!!!
