Dull Thud, NEW Octavia 2.0T.D.I

Featured Replies

I have what can only be described as a dull 'Thud' coming from what sounds like underneath the rear of the car, its only happens intermittantly, both when the car is moving and when stationary.

When the vehicle is stationary and it happens you can feel the 'Thud' through the bodywork, the car also seems to 'Settle',.

Just wondering if it could be something to do with the suspension, shock absorber or something, have had the local dealer look at it, they apparently cannot find anything wrong !!.

Its begining to really P*SS me off no end.

Anyone got any ideas Pleeeeeeseeeee !

Thanks

does it happen just the once after the engine is started or a few times on each journey?

Handbrake cable self adjuster?

It could be a broken or coil bound spring suddenly releasing or one of the damper struts has got bent and is binding in its 'tube'. Get a mate to bounce on each corner of the car while you check to see if a spring is rotating/broken or if the damper strut is sliding freely up and down inside its sleeve.

If you can't see anything obvious ask a neighbour if they are missing a cat?
