Yeti eating H7 bulbs by the bucket load

Featured Replies

Hello all,

for some weeks now my FL Yeti is eating her H7 dipped beam bulbs by the bucket load ☹️

The strange thing is it’s only on the drivers side ( in my case the left side).

I am puzzled.

Does anyone know what could be the problem?

Regards,

Lico

Bad connection?

Lico, sometimes the connector plug that pushes onto the bulb can loose its grip on the terminals & then gets hot.

Suggest you remove the plug & fit a new one.

are they all kaputt? try testing on the battery!

As above loose/ damaged connection, lamp loose in holder allowing lamp to vibrate, touching lamp glass when installing, cheap lamps?

Hello All,

Touching the glass I avoid, it doesn’t happen on the right hand side so the same method

on the left side.

The bulbs are not cheap nor expensive, but again the right hand side is fine.

The overall quality off the bulbs seems fine.

The connection between connector and bulb seems firm.

Bulbs look like this after removal.

Left one seems somewhat melted, the right one looks okay but is broken too.

Are the bulbs all the same make or batch?

Have you fitted one of them to the right hand side which didn't blow?

I suggest next time the LH bulb blows replace it with the RH one and put the new one in the RH side, wait to see which one blows next.

A bad connection does not cause bulb filament failure but the heat from arcing can damage the connector and wiring. Vibration is a possibility if not correctly seated but unlikely, there is no significant pendulum mass and the wiring harness will damp any movement.

If it continues then I would susect the body control module, might be called the comfort control module, the headlam voltage can be altered by programming, maybe it is at 100% charging voltage 14.4v and there is a higher resistance on the RHS circuit protecting that bulb.

Yes, the bulbs are the same make and batch.

I haven’t tried the switch between right and left bulb.

Perhaps I should try that later this week ( after the dutch monsoon right now ☹️)

programming the comfort controle module is via VCDS?
