Doesn't look that good for either:

I know they keep changing the goalposts but those results aren't good.

The Spring also lacks active safety assistance tech, with the company arguing that customers don’t want it.

Corporate greed driven spin at its finest.

The whole thing with Zoe's zero star also stinks of corporate greed.

The goal post absolutely need to change to ensure new cars are all kept in-line with new technologies widely available. So not just luxury cars get the best safety features. In this case, a cheap car doesn't mean it should forgo well established safety tech: side curtain airbags or AEB.

Jeez those results make my Fabia look sturdy, mind you, it wasn't bashed into a post. The Dacia Duster didn't do too well either due to the pole test result IIRC.

Do you think the AEB delete was due to the chip shortage? It will be back in the Zoe from March 2021. Its just the manufacturers trying to maintain production despite not having all the parts they'd normally fit. The new side airbag sounds like form over function to me, a 'proper' airbag wouldn't fit in the new design so it gets reduced in size and effectiveness.

... and I know this is a "new model", but Euro KneeCAP keep arbitrarily reducing their ratings for existing models "because we've changed the standard", and giving better ratings for systems like "lane enforce" and "auto slam on the brakes randomly" (if you don't like my opinion, check the model technical fora)

Absolutely, it's due to chip shortages. But if anything they were to cut, it should always be non-safety related.

I'd be okay if they installed 20 buttons in place of a touch screen, and offered a retrofit upgrade path to normal spec later down the line. Or even wind-down windows + hand adjusting mirrors to eliminate door control modules at each door. Luxury can always go backwards, but never safety.

That is a positive for me, it means that I can narrow my search for a replacement vehicle down to those with the lowest NCAP ratings!

I very much like your opinion!

For some reason they only test the lower spec Zoe model and not the GT LIne or Riviera which I understand buyers tended to go for as the higher spec machines actually worked out about the same cost as the residuals were much higher ie the ones with the DC charging as standard and of course Emergency Braking.  My Riviera, based on the GT line has the below spec and frankly I think it has plenty of safety equipment, the shell is almost the same as the mark1 / 2 that got Five Star NCAP in 2013 whilst in continued in to the mark 3 ZE50 the Zoe is probably in its last year as the new Renault 5 will replace it shortly.  I would be happy with a Dacia Spring too, I have not heard it is definitely coming to the UK ie being made in RHD.  My Zoe spec.at the bottom ...

Sad if Renault removed the AEBS due to lack of parts and I hope buyer saw this and bought the GT LIne or Riviera models instead with the AEBS, lane departure, blind spot etc.  Enjoying the Zoe but looking forward to the Megane-e.
