Superb Sportline DSG 190ps TSI petrol MPG

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

Picked up on a couple of threads here discussing MPG, mainly TDI's and I wondered what my new 'petrol' Superb might manage (I've only had it a week)

It was due back at the dealer this morning, software patch (different thread). Dealer is 61 miles away, cross country, A1 dual carriageway, A505  Fast A road, then slow local traffic through Cambridge. Eco mode and adaptive cruise, not holding up traffic, only stuff that came past were the white vans on the Dual A1. Result = 48.7 mpg, not bad I thought. Photo attached. Might crack 50mpg on a LONG motorway haul at the national limit

Long term is hovering around 38.8 over 2700miles, all but a couple of hundred done by the dealer whilst it was a demo,  I'd settle for a 40mpg rolling average as it's going to get 'squeezed' when the mood takes me !!

So what is everybody else getting, much better or much worse.......................come on !

My best average is around 54 mpg on a mixture of motorway and fast A road, and more typical consumption is in the range 44-46 mpg with some town driving thrown in. Worst was 39 mpg which included 8 miles taking two hours in a traffic jam. It's very much the case that if you can keep the momentum going and average 55-65mph it's a pretty efficient car despite the size and weight.

Thanks EC. Pretty impressive, is that in your Golf 7.5 (profile) or in a Superb ?

On my normal rotation in y UP! TSi returns 50-54mpg so if I can get anywhere near I'd be very pleased.

Anybody else ?

Good spot Mike, I had forgotten to update my profile since I joined - now done! Those figures are what I've got in the Superb, although are remarkably similar to what I was previously getting in the Golf which was a 1.4 TSI.

I should also mention those are the 'real' figures calculated from refueling - I've found the trip computer calculations to be around 6% too optimistic on average (which again is in line with the figures from the Golf - it's surprising that with precisely measured fuel injection these readings are not a bit more accurate).

Interesting you mention about the Up which is what I also had a few years ago for commuting (one car with a tiny boot, one with a huge boot), and averaged 52 mpg on the typical daily commute (8 miles town driving, 48 miles motorway). I replaced the Up with a Fiesta which returned almost identical figures to the Golf, and now a Fiat 124 which has slightly worse fuel economy than the Superb!

Hi EC

Interesting about the trip computer. I ripped out the UP! ICE and replaced it with an Alpine head unit with a 9'' screen (fantastic) and along the way lost the UP's trip computer so started doing it all long hand at the pump. Like you, found the trip was over reading (VAG falsifying  data, say its not true 🤣) which, in hind sight, is a product of the over reading speedo which all manufacturers do to avoid getting caught on the 'speedo must read' rule

Modern TSi engines and getting pretty good now, near diesel levels of economy but without the smell and AdBlue.

Loving my Superb, the economy is a bonus 😎

This is all looking horribly familiar - please, please NOOOOO !

Really ?  No idea what you're talking about, I've been here one week . . . . . .

Sorry, I'm not having a go at you as such. It's just that there was a guy on here up until maybe a year ago who posted so many pictures of his fuel consumption display that pretty much everybody on here got sick to death of him, and questions like yours seem like summoning the devil again. No offence intended to you!

Hi David

No offence taken. I can see that that would get pretty old, pretty quickly !  Just interested in all things Superb and fuel does represent a chunk of the daily running costs.

If caning it gives the same MPG and eco mode (unlikely) then even more fun, so just trying to get a handle on what to expect
