Universal Head Unit Cages

Featured Replies

Thinking about buying one of these (here) for a 1990s-ish Goodmans GCE-536 as a secondary head unit for my 2006 Fabia since I can use it to play cassettes when I want to be listening to them in the car. Has anyone used one of these universal DIN bracket thingies on a Fabia or other model before, if so, what were your experiences like? I've included a photo of the stereo too, just for filler.

Security isn't an issue since the facia is detachable and if you're going about a village with less than 2,000 people looking to steal cassette head units then ye need yer head checked. :D

Many thanks in advance. :)

Idiocy etc.

Not used that one but have used similar in older cars and currently have a similar one in my MX5 for the Clarion thats in there (and for the spare thats in tne garage cupboard.

Having said that do you actually need one for the Fabia as the OE head unit is actually din sized, albeit with an oversize fascia...

I have the fascia adapter too. I wired it all in and was quite chuffed with myself except that it sat a bit loose. Took the car out and gave it a wee bit of welly... and the stereo jumped out. :D

As an update: I fitted the cage, it's not one of those clicky-locking anti-theft types so the stereo sits nicely enough but can also be pulled it. It's not perfect but it beats accelerating heavily (using all 64 horses) and the stereo bashing the gearstick. After all, it's only in there temporarily until I have a need for the Bluetooth one since I can swap both whenever they're required. :)

Since this mission was successful, a cassette HU with CD changer could be on the cards. ;)
