MkI VRS. 

 

Fob 1 - Was working normally, now it locks the central locking but will not open it, and when I used the key to open the door and try to start,the alarm sounded.

Fob 2 - Still working normally. (and when fob 1 would not operate the CL to open fob 2 still works correctly)

I assumed a low battery in Fob1 so I have replaced it. Now fob 1 does not work at all?

 

Any suggestions?

Try cleaning the holder that the battery sits in. I had similar problems recently that turned out to just be a little corrosion at the contact points.

On your advice I have removed the battery cleaned the contact points and  I have also bent the spring contacts slightly for extra pressure.

 

All good now 👍
